Spring Break Day 6: Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point

We started off with breakfast at the hotel again. Then, we drove out to Canyonlands National Park. This was a bit farther of a drive, almost 50 minutes outside of Moab to get to the entrance.

We saw lots of signs about cows in the road again and we ran into them a few times. Here they are just leisurely crossing the road.

We made it to the entrance of Canyonlands!

We wanted to see the Mesa Arch, which is quick hike and relatively easy.

Here we are sitting in the Mesa Arch. You aren't allowed to climb on top, mainly because the other side is a drop off, but some people were trying!

We stayed in this area for a while because there were lots of gorgeous views and places to climb around.

We even saw a lizard!

When you've climbed all the rocks, you head for the trees!

The kids thought this little hole in the rocks was fun. Luckily, no living animals came out!

Here's Avery doing a dance move.

And here's the outtake of her almost falling trying to hold it long enough for me to get a good picture!

We went to a couple of the other overlooks to see the canyons.

The girls were really into doing dance and gymnastics moves this day!

Then, we headed to the nearby Dead Horse Point State Park. It's a few miles down the road from Canyonlands. You stand at the top of the canyon and look down 2000 feet! Very impressive views! You can see the Colorado River (which is very green!). There are also evaporation pools that they dye blue where they collect the salt to use.

You can see the evaporation pools in the back of this picture.

It was after lunchtime and we were all starving, so we wrapped it up at the park. Of course, we ran into more cows crossing the road on our way back to Moab.

We grabbed lunch at the Moab Diner again because we liked it so much the night before and we wanted something fast. We relaxed at the hotel for a bit, then the girls and Matt played basketball again.

The girls got in one last swim in the hotel pool before dinner.

On the way to dinner, we stopped off at a shop to get hoodies made. The girls and Matt all picked out hoodies and screen prints. The owners even gave the girls little ducks (their new favorite animal apparently!)

We ate dinner at Dewey's Bar and Grill. Food and drinks were good. Morgan was so exhausted after the week and getting a bit homesick. She really missed Milo! :)
