Wrapping up soccer and softball

On Sunday, Morgan was triple-booked! She had her last soccer game for the 2012 Select team, a basketball game with the park district and a softball game all scheduled at the same time! She went to the soccer game because it was the last of the season! Her team ended up winning 3-0 with all three goals scored by Ellery!

She played goalie the first half and it was pretty uneventful. In the second half, she had some great passes!

Here she is running down the ball.

And then making some fancy footwork to kick the ball back through the opponent's legs and towards the goal!

Team picture after the game:

Back: Lynnea, Mina, Jules, Morgan, Emily, Clara, Gia, Ellery

I think the girls finished 3rd in their league (out of 6 teams).

The basketball team won, but the softball team lost. Her softball team finished 1st in the regular season, but didn't make it to the final championship game in the playoffs. They were pretty disappointed. Morgan was really disappointed because she didn't get to play in the last game due to the soccer game.

Softball game

We wrapped up our Monday with a softball game at O'Neill. It was chilly! Avery and I took Milo so he could hang out with Rosie. At first, Rosie wasn't so sure about Milo (he is a little crazy!) But, she warmed up to him and they even played together a bit.

We went with the orange/black bubble pony for today's game.

The cutest cheering section!

Morgan pitched an inning and did pretty well. She struck out two people, walked three people and only allowed 3 runs to get in. Considering this is her first year playing and pitching, she's picking it up pretty fast.

The team lost 12-19. It was only their second loss of the season. We're getting towards the end of the season. There is one more regular season game and then the playoffs. We'll miss the last regular season game because it conflicts with a soccer game this Saturday.

At softball practice, they worked on sliding. :)

Weekend activities

Our Saturday morning started off with an early soccer game in Oak Park. It rained most of the game and was chilly. Morgan played goalie the first half and had some great saves. She played in the field the second half and had some great passes to her teammates. My pictures from the game didn't turn out because of the weather.

We grabbed lunch at Bryan's and then relaxed a bit until the softball game. The field was still in decent shape, so the game was on! Morgan had a great game! She had a few hits and scored a few times. She got to pitch one inning and got two strikeouts and also tagged a girl out at home plate who was stealing from third base! We celebrated with some ice cream at Every Day's a Sundae! I didn't get any pictures and the one video I got of her hit is like a second long because I started cheering and dropped my phone! :) But here it is:

On Sunday, we really didn't have too much going on, so we went to check out the Sky Zone that opened up recently by us.

On Sunday night, Ruth came over for dinner and we caught up with her. We hadn't seen her in a while!

The girls are excited for their birthday... only a few days until they are 12 - I can't believe it!

Saturday sports!

Our Saturday started off with a drive to Streamwood for Morgan's soccer game. It was so hot and sunny! She played goalie the first half. It was kind of boring for her because the defense kept most of the balls away from her!

She had a few good saves, though.

Her team won 3-0 and played well. We grabbed some lunch at Portillo's on the way home. We cooled off in the AC for a bit before heading out for the next event.

Morgan had a softball game at 4:00. I dropped Avery off at Erin's house to hang out with Grandma and the cousins. She was tired of being in the heat and had already sat through two soccer games! Morgan played short stop in the 1st inning and had a great pop fly catch and play to first base. She pitched in the 2nd inning and had a rough time of it. I think she was more nervous because Grandpa was at the game and her teacher also showed up. She just couldn't string enough strikes together in a row. She walked some kids, some got hits and the other team got 5 runs, so the inning was over (5 run rule).

Morgan pitching

She sat out one inning, played center field and then short stop again in the last inning. Her team was losing in the last inning by 3 (another pitcher on their team had also had an inning with the 5 run rule). Since they were the home team, they got to bat last. Morgan got up and was hit by a pitch (the second time that happened to her in the game!). With that and some great base running, she made it around the bases and ended up scoring the winning run! Their team was really happy to have pulled it off at the end!

After the game, we celebrated Erin's birthday at the Wilken's with a pizza party! And of course, a big cookie bake!

Softball game vs Hay

Morgan's team played on Saturday at 2:00 against Hay. It was a really hot day! Morgan pitched in the 1st and 4th innings and did great. According to the stats, Morgan gave up zero hits and one run (zero earned) over those two innings, striking out two and walking one. Their team ended up winning 13 to 6!

Morgan had an awesome play at home while pitching. She tagged a person trying to steal home! I was live streaming from my phone, so I took no pictures. But, I screen shotted from the video footage (so it's not good).

Here Morgan is getting ready to pitch:

Here she goes... Morgan grabbed the ball and ran over to cut the runner off before getting to home.

And she's out! :)

We had to leave a little early to run home, so Morgan could change for her soccer game.

Softball Game #1

Morgan had her first softball game Monday night. She missed the team's first game on Saturday because she had a soccer game at the same time. She was pumped for the game! For batting, she was up four times - struck out twice, walked once and line drive to left field the other time. She made it in to score twice. She also pitched one inning. She struck out the first batter and the rest got hits. Two runs got in that inning. She didn't walk anyone, so that was good! We had to cut out a few minutes early from the game so that Morgan could get to goalie training. But, her team ended up winning 12-9. :)

This is the only picture I got - ha! I'll have to try harder at the next game!

Batter up!

Morgan is playing softball this season. She hasn't played since she was six and barely remembers that! But, she really wanted to give it a try and we can work with her soccer schedule this fall to let her be on the team. She got a new batting helmet, bat and shoes. Good luck for a fun season!

Softball

Since softball was pretty much canceled, we have been getting together with the other girls and practicing at the park with the dads helping out. We also have been practicing for fun at home and the park by us.

Over the weekend, we did some batting practice at Lester with the girls.

At the softball practice this week, the weather was a little chilly. Avery thought she should bundle up and wear her ear muffs. It wasn't THAT cold! :)

Last softball game

The last softball game was a HOT one! Still in the 90's even at 6:00 at night. Ugh. The girls have had a fun time in the league and were especially excited to get little medals at the end of the season.

My little catcher

After completely hating the idea of being the catcher in the first game, Morgan has really started liking it!

Pink Panthers

The girls are enjoying their softball league. The weather is finally cooperating so they can have some more games! The girls got to play "pitcher" (who just stands by the other team's coach pitching) and catcher for an inning the other night. Morgan loved being the catcher.  She chatted up the other team's coach who was standing behind her, who got quite a kick out of their conversation. I swear, that kid will talk to anyone!

Morgan is fast! Here she is racing to first base... it was called a tie, which goes to the runner! :)

Softball game... almost

We had a softball game last Saturday and just as we were getting there, the clouds rolled in and it started looking pretty ominous. We got to warm up about 10 minutes before the lightning alarm went off. The rule is you have to wait 20 minutes from the last lightning strike before you can play. Well, the storm was awful and there was no way we were going to play, so we headed home. Of course, not before Morgan was able to totally get dirty. Seriously, they were only out of the car for 10 minutes! Ha!

Softball game

Our next softball game was a lot nicer! Sunny and warm! The girls had fun and each got a few turns at bat and got good hits! They even remembered to drop the bat and run to first! ;)

My little Pink Panthers

Good game!

First softball game

The girls' first softball game was a chilly one! They do coach pitch and each girl gets 6 tries to hit a ball pitched to them. Then, they get out the tee and let them hit off the tee. The innings go to either 5 runs or 3 outs. So far, it seems like we hit the 5 runs first in most innings. The kids are learning to field the ball, but they aren't exactly sure what to do with it once they get it. :)

Parade

The girls got to be in a parade to kick off the spring baseball/softball season in our town. Grayson was also in the parade with his baseball team.

The girls' softball team. We didn't have uniforms yet, so we just dressed warmly for the weather.
