On Wednesday night, our v-ball team had to play the early game (6pm). It's always a challenge to get there that early right after work, but add in snow and pissed off drivers and the time sky rockets. Me and the three guys on the team were able to make it in time to start the first game. So, the four of us played vs. a full team of 6. We ended up doing pretty well, but we lost 26-24. Then, Erin and Hany showed up and we took the next two games. The games were both pretty close, which is way more fun than blowing out the other team. So, it was a good night of v-ball.
We stopped off at Four Shadows afterwards for a quick drink/bite to eat.
Yesterday, I made one of my favorite meals in the world... pot roast and mashed potatoes. I'm a big fan of comfort food! I'm also a big fan of leftovers! : ) Matt gave it the thumbs up!
After dinner, we played this game "Shut the Box" that BJ got for Matt. It's some game they used to play all the time at Blue Agave while Dana was working. Matt spent a lot of time there while I was working overseas. Anyway, the game started off well for me, but soon I was down a few bucks (we were playing for dollar bills). And Matt, being the good winner that he is, decides to take all of his new dollar bill winnings and "make it rain". Dollar bills floating all over the place. Nice, bud. This was supposed to be a friendly game! The game went on for a little longer, I won some money back and then eventually he won all of my dollar bills. The guy never loses!
We watched the Biggest Loser last night on DVR. I'm still trying to figure out who (if any) of these people I like and want to root for. I am looking forward to next week's show... the previews looked good. Hopefully, it's not one of those stupid Bachelor type previews where some girl said she was pregnant as a joke, but they made it look like she was serious... then they cut out that part of the scene from the show. Stupid.
The weekend is almost here! Yay! : )

A new 'do
I went last night to get my hair cut and I decided to try something different. Not as crazy as the makeovers I posted the other day - no Lady GaGa! : ) I ended up getting bangs cut, which feels weird because it's been forever since I last had them. I don't have any pics to post just yet.
Today, Matt walks up to my desk to see if I want to grab lunch and gives me a couple of looks and starts chuckling. Not exactly the reaction I was hoping for, babe! ; ) He thinks the new 'do is a little "shocking". I don't think it's THAT bad, probably just different. But, every time I look in a mirror, I do a double take... it takes some getting used to, but I like it!

People on the bus...
...are RUDE! Really, folks, is it that hard to be courteous??? I know it's morning and people are not happy to be going to work... but, hey, we're all in the same boat here! I have probably already ranted about my love (heavy on the sarcasm) of bus-riders, but I'll do it again.
A couple of things:
1) If you can move towards the back of the bus, please do so. Otherwise, everyone has to smash into the front of the bus. Nothing irks me more than to get on a bus that is packed from the front to about halfway back and then tons of space. Why aren't you fools moving - do you think I like being sardined in with some randoms who don't always have the best hygiene skills???
2) You do not need to stand up and try to make your way to the door two city blocks before your stop. Especially when the bus is uber-packed. There will be time for you to get off the bus at the stop along with the other ten+ people that are also going to get off and are not trying to smash through a crowded bus to get to the door. There is no prize for being the first person off the bus. Luckily, the bus is not driven by a robot. An actual human is up there... with ears. If you are trying to get off the bus and he shuts the door, you can yell "hey, let me out". I know, it's like rocket science. And if you are in that big of a hurry, you should have left earlier!
3) If you are under 60 years old and not pregnant and nothing is physically wrong with you, get out of the seats in the front of the bus marked "Priority Seating" when an old person or pregnant lady gets on the bus. Quit pretending you don't see the old lady with a cane while you are texting on your phone... and move your butt.
4) A bus is not 'da club'. If you want to listen to music, wear headphones. Not everyone likes the same music as you. And if you do have headphones on and I can still hear your music, that is WAY too loud. You are going to go deaf!
5) A bus is also not a church. If you want to spout off your religious beliefs, find a church or a street corner.
6) There is no reason to speak at the top of your lungs to the person next to you who is about a foot away. If you can't hear well and you need to speak that loud, you are probably in need of a hearing aid. If you think what you are saying is that exciting and that everyone wants to know your business... it's not and we don't.
7) Don't even get me started about people on their cell phones... basically, see #6. With an addition - just because we can only hear half of the conversation does not make it "private". Wait for ten minutes until you are off the bus to get in a fight with your boyfriend, please. (On a side note: I actually once heard a girl loudly reading on the phone to her friend the letter she was giving to her boyfriend to break up with him. Quite funny. I'm pretty sure she had no clue everyone was listening.)
8) And a note to the bus driver: You may think it's funny to drive really fast and slam on your brakes at every stop, but to everyone standing on the bus, smashed against a complete stranger, it's really not. Maybe you give yourself 10 points for every stink eye you get or 20 points when a person falls on the floor. Whatever keeps you awake, right?
I'm looking forward to warmer weather and being able to walk to/from work more. I think I ride the bus too much. : )

New hairstyle???
I'm getting my hair cut on Tuesday night and I've been trying to decide what I want to have done. I found this virtual makeover thing online where you upload your own picture and see what you look like with different celebrities' hairstyles. I don't know that I actually made a decision, but it was fun to mess around with! : )
Whitney Houston

Not sure who this is, but it reminded Matt of the waitress at the bowling alley

Salma Hayek

Kate Gosselin (before the extensions)

Lady Gaga

Ashley Olsen - I actually like this one!

I put Matt's picture in for fun, but he won't let me post his celebrity makeovers. He threatened me with bodily harm!

Friday - yay!
This week has gone by much faster than last week... which is awesome! So glad it's Friday!
On Tuesday night, a few girls got together for a "book" club at Michelle's place. Lots of chatting and snacking and drinking of wine. And about 15 minutes of discussing and trading books. My kind of book club!
While I was over there, Andy and Samantha hung out with Matt at our place. I think Matt actually held Sam - that's moving in the right direction! Of course, Matt holding a baby is usually out of necessity and not by choice. He's not big on holding other people's babies until they are "big enough to walk to him" (a direct quote.) Maybe he thinks he'll break them or something. : ) Matt even got in a little babysitting time (or as I like to call it - practice!) while Andy ran to the store to grab some formula. Sam was none too happy to be left alone with Matt... he is kind of scary!
Wednesday night, we had the first game of our new volleyball season. Our team (now that Brandon is gone) is: me, Hany, Erin, Brett, Brian (a friend of Brandon's) and Jeremy (a friend of Hany's). The guys are all tall, which is nice. Brian wasn't able to make it this week, so Brandon subbed - it was nice to have him play with us one more time. He leaves in a couple weeks for Denver. Our team is looking promising this season, even though we only won one game.
Last night, Matt worked late... again. January sucks for him. I went to Spin class with Erin. I don't know what it is about the Thursday night instructor, but she can NOT figure out how to use the headset speaker. She makes it screech every week. Last night was no exception, she did it 4 times. I thought my ears were going to bleed! Awful! Afterwards, Matt and I went out for sushi at Izumi. Strawberry maki = yum!
I'm looking forward to the weekend - crossing my fingers that Matt won't have to work!

Another quick weekend
Seriously, where do these weekends go???
Friday night, I saw Avatar - I already mentioned how much I liked the movie. Definitely go see it in a theater in 3-D. Very cool! We saw it at the Showplace ICON (sorry, shameless plug for my bro's company coming up). It is a cool theater. There's a bar/lounge upstairs that serves food and drinks. Not just popcorn and hot dogs kind of food, they have pizzas and paninis and some fancy desserts. We sat in the VIP section which has extra large chairs and personal tables between every two seats, plenty of room for tall folks like me. And you get to drink in the VIP section, which is cool. Drinking wine while seeing Avatar might have made the movie even better! : )
Saturday, I dragged myself over to the 1.5 hour Spin class at the gym. I love that class, but it's hard to motivate myself to get there on a Saturday morning. The instructor is really cool and the class always kicks my butt, though, so it's worth it!
I spent a lot of Saturday afternoon writing thank-you notes. Then, we watched a little football over at C Funk's place. We tried out the new Domino's pizza. It's definitely better than the old version. The crust has some yummy garlic buttery kind of taste to it. I'd order it again.
On Sunday, Matt had to work all morning at the office. Boo. We went to Home Depot in the afternoon to pick up some toliet supplies. Apparently, our toliet was flushed one too many times and the flapper thing broke. Matt played plumber and got it all fixed up. He earned his keep for the day. ; )
We ended up at the Purple Otter later to feed Matt's wing craving and watch more football. The boy loves his wings! The PO was crowded... I guess a lot of people have today off - lucky ducks!
And then the weekend ended as it always does... watching Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. In a few weeks, bowling starts on Sunday nights... I can't wait!

Just saw Avatar...
Things I learned this week
The CTA is making quite a few changes to their bus/train system. The express bus that stops right out in front of the building I live in is going to stop running effective Feb 7th. And the regular bus that stops there is going to have reduced service. Awesome. I sometimes can't get on a bus now because it's too packed - literally people are sandwiched in like sardines from front to back. Once the weather is nice enough, I can walk to work. But, right now, I'm not so keen on spending any additional time in below freezing temps than I have to.
You can't renew your passport in person. You must always do it by mail... unless you lost your old one or you are traveling within the next few weeks. Apparently, I can't read the website correctly, because I didn't see anywhere that it said you "must" renew by mail. I just thought it was an option. So, I filled out all the paperwork to renew in person (which is a different form than the by-mail form), got all my crap together and walked over to the office at lunchtime yesterday. waste.of.time. The lady was like "there is NO office in the city where you can renew in person". Okie-dokie. Today, I re-filled out the paperwork for the by-mail form and took everything to the post office so I could mail it by certified mail.
I need to set an alarm in the morning. I no longer can rely on my internal alarm clock that has worked so well for me in the past. I overslept four times this week. I always wake up, or am somewhat coherent, when Matt leaves for work in the morning, which is usually around 7am. But this week, he's been going into work early and not at the same time each day. So, I've been going back to sleep after he leaves. Not the best idea on my part.
That's about it... or at least what I can think of right now. Today was a good day - pay day, Friday, free pizza lunch at work (not good for the diet, though) and I get to see Avatar tonight! Looking forward to this weekend!

Long week, short weekend
The first week back from the holidays seemed soooooooooooooo long! Is it Memorial Day yet?!? And like always, the weekend went by too fast.
On Friday night, we grabbed a couple of drinks with co-workers at Coogans after work. Exam results came out that day for some people, so they wanted to celebrate passing. We tried to go to DeCero for dinner, but it was packed. So, we ended up at our old stand-by, the Beer Bistro. Love that place!
Saturday morning, I decided to break my streak of not working out and hit the gym. I met Erin at Spin class. Good times. I've got to get back on the wagon and make it to the gym more. Erin's wedding is in July and Matt and I are taking a trip after that, so I don't want to be a tubb-o!
On Saturday night, we went out to Mystic Celt to wish Brandon farewell... he's moving to Denver. Brandon has been on our volleyball and bowling teams now for quite a few years (like 6 or more???). It's going to feel strange not having him on our teams anymore! : (
Some pics from the party...
Erin and me with Brandon... and the v-ball team (well, a combo of a few different seasons)
Hany and me

Typical Matt - he fooled me - I thought he was going to smile and at the last minute - beer bottle

On Sunday, I ran some errands, did some laundry and cleaned. Yeah, fun times. I started writing wedding thank-yous until my hand cramped up. Then, we went to the Purple Otter for drinks and dinner with the Reuters (oh, and C Funk was there, too). The P.O. almost blew up! Slight electrical problem with the cash register = sparks flying in the air like the 4th of July. I guess that's considered "the dinner show".
Matt and I got home in time for Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. I slept through a good portion of both. I am old and lame these days.

Ringing of the bell
It's official! You can check out the video of the ringing of the bell if you are so inclined. We all watched it in the office this morning. : )For the entire day, the front façade of the NYSE building in downtown NYC is draped in banners showing the new Towers Watson logo (that's the pic on the right). Also, a flag with our name and logo is flying outside the building.

i.am.exhausted
This has been a crazy week, but we had so much fun and enjoyed seeing so many of our family and friends!!!
A little diary of the last few days...
Wednesday
The moms, Erin and I put together the gift bags and got everything ready to take out to the hotel for the NYE party. We had my new car all packed up!
We dropped everything off and chatted with my wedding planner, Audrey, and all was set to go! We had a quick bite to eat and a couple drinks at the bar at the hotel.
As I was heading back to the city, my BRAND NEW CAR BROKE DOWN - overheated! Just awesome. Luckily, with my new car I get On-Star, so I pushed the little button and told them I was stranded on the side of the road. She asked me how many miles I had on the car and I said 496. Not even 500 miles on the thing and it's un-usable on the side of the road. I don't think you'll be seeing my call on a commercial anytime soon!
On-Star told me I should crank up the heater and try driving the car to the next exit, which was about a mile away. I made it about 5 seconds and the car was done again. They dispatched a tow truck out for me. In the mean time, an IDOT truck came up behind me and told me I couldn't stay where I was. I was thinking - yeah, like I really WANT to be here anyway. He said I should drive in front of him until my car died again and then put it in neutral and he would PUSH me the rest of the way while I steered. So, after about 5 seconds, the car died again and he pushed me, bumping into the back of my brand new car for about a mile until I was able to exit. Then, he pushed me into a gas station. And I waited for the tow truck to come.
The tow truck took me to the nearest Chevy dealership, which was not going to be open again until Saturday. So, I would have NO car for the whole time of our wedding reception. Awesome. Luckily, my Dad said he would be my chauffeur for the next few days!
I spent the rest of the night at home working on the slide show for the wedding. I decided I would just do it myself instead of hiring someone to do it, which was not the best decision I have ever made. It took a lot longer than I thought it would!
Thursday
Thursday was a whirlwind of a day - manicure/pedicure, hair appt, greeting people as they checked in, etc. I was a nervous wreck that day! More nervous than I ever was for the Bahamas wedding! I just didn't feel as on top of everything that was supposed to happen that day.
Matt and I got all fixed up in our fancy clothes and shared a bottle of champagne with Ryan and Jenn before heading down to the cocktail hour.
The cocktail hour was in the foyer of the ballroom and it was packed... and SO LOUD! So many of our family and friends in one place - totally overwhelming!!! We made our way through trying to talk to people along the way.
Matt and I really enjoyed the speeches my Dad, Erin and Ryan made. I'm sure they were oh-so-happy that they had to do double-duty as MOH and Best Man and come up with two speeches!
When we were getting ready to go up for the cake cutting, I say to Matt - Do NOT smash the cake in my face! Of course, Ryan tells him to do it and eggs him on. As we're cutting the cake, I give Matt a VERY small piece, because I can see that little glimmer in his eye that he's up to something. I had a feeling this would not end well for me. I say to him again - if you smash the cake in my face, you are DEAD. He did not listen.
We did our first dances again and an anniversary dance... and then the party started! There was A LOT of dancing! We really liked the DJ and thought he did a great job of keeping the crowd going.
The rest of the night went by so fast - especially for me, because I had a few too many drinks and the night was a little fuzzy towards the end. I'm pretty sure I thought I was 21 years old and could party like a rock star.
Once I get some pictures back, I'll post them!
Friday
In the morning, a lot of our guests were downstairs at the hotel's brunch. So I got to catch up with some of them. I feel like I didn't get to talk to everyone much at the party. Like 5 seconds here and there, but that's about it.
Matt and I loaded up the cars and headed back home. He went straight to the Purple Otter for some football watching. I had to rest a bit on the couch before I could make it up there. Recovering.
The PO was packed! Some of my family was there and we played Left-Right-Center. My cousin Erik won like 5 times in a row! Lucky!
I managed to drink one beer, but it went down slowly!
Matt and I came home, ordered pizza and veg'd out on the couch. There was a lot of snoring coming from his side of the couch! : )
Saturday
Matt and I ran some errands and picked up my car at the dealership. Turns out, there is some clamp that is put on the car during assembly that wasn't removed before the car left for the dealership. So, the engine coolant wasn't running through the car properly and it overheated. Someone was asleep on the assembly line that day! They said it is all good now. Hope so.
We picked up Matt's mom from the hotel. We opened our wedding gifts - so many nice things! : )
On Saturday night, we hung out at the Reuters' house - pizza and tater tots (Matt is so excited he can have these again!). We played cards and watched football. Afterwards, we dropped Matt's mom back off at the hotel and came home and crashed!
Sunday
Today, I am veggin' out on the couch, recovering from all the festivities of the weekend. I definitely hit the wall and am glad to have this day before returning to work.
Speaking of work, my company is now Towers Watson and we have new email addresses already! Here's the new logo -

Tomorrow, we have a big meeting with all of the TP and WW employees. Should be an interesting day!
