Six

We went into the city on Friday night to see Six the Musical. We grabbed dinner at The Marq before the show. The food was good and we got in/out in great time.

Avery was showing off her manicure at dinner... she did this herself - so cute!

We were in the mezzanine section in the first row, which was great.

We all loved the show! I'm glad we made the trek to the city!

(Just for future reference, we had Mezzanine-Right-Aisle 12-Row A - Seats 10/12/14/16)

Mean Girls Jr - Show #4

We wrapped up Mean Girls Jr with a final performance on Sunday afternoon. My parents were able to drive up for the show which made all the kids super happy! If you don't recall, my mom fell right before vacation in July and broke her knee cap. She had surgery a few days later and ended up missing out on our annual Michigan vacation. She's been laid out at home since then and was really sad to miss out on seeing the kids in the show. But, they decided to give it a try and set her up in the back seat of the car to try to make her comfortable for the drive. They were able to spend some time with the kiddos, see the show and drive home afterwards. :)

After the show, they had a small cast party at a nearby restaurant. We stopped by for some pizza and drinks. The kids enjoyed playing the pinball machines. Avery wore her "On Wednesdays, we wear pink" shirt! :) As always, Avery had a fun time and made some new friends. She's hoping to have time to do some more shows with this group!

Mean Girls Jr - Show #3

On Saturday, we had the whole group in the audience cheering on the kids - the Wilkens (plus Patty again) and Matt and Morgan. After we dropped the kids off at their call time, we grabbed dinner/drinks at Driftwood.

Another fun performance! A lot of similar pictures from the other nights! :)

During the Halloween party scene, Beckett got to dress up as a poop emoji! Ha!

Erin snuck a couple of videos...

Here's Beckett's rap at the house party (Avery is also in this scene on the left side)

And a couple Mathletes competition scenes with both Avery and Beckett

After the show, Erin made Morgan stand back-to-back with her. She made Morgan take off her shoes because they gave her a slight height advantage. Won't be long until Morgan is as tall as Erin!

Mean Girls Jr - Show #2

On Friday night, Erin, Patty and I went to the show. I dropped the kids off at their call time and met up for pre-drinks with Erin and Patty at Uncle Julio's again.

You can see Avery and Beckett together in this scene - "Where Do You Belong"

Then, for the song Apex Predator, they had the "dance team" do a dance.

Nice tilt, Avery! :)

The girl on the right goes to Avery's same dance company and they are going to be doing hip hop together this year.

You can see Beckett in this scene too!

I thought this picture was funny... I caught Avery mid-air!

Here's the scene in the gym again.

And Avery singing "I'd Rather Be Me"

I love this picture of Beckett! This is the scene where he's asking Cady to join the mathletes competition with them.

And then here's the Mathletes competition with Beckett and Avery together.

Curtain call!

Another great performance by Avery and Beckett!

Mean Girls Jr - Show #1

Avery and Beckett participated in the summer show the Academy put on - Mean Girls Jr! The tryouts were back in June and rehearsals started the second week of July. They had 3 rehearsals a week for 6 weeks, so it was definitely a condensed schedule! Beckett got the role of Kevin G, the mathletes leader and wanna-be-rapper! :) Avery got the roles of mathletes moderator and Sophie, a girl on the dance team. She was a little disappointed she didn't get a bigger role. But we had to give our availability for rehearsals at auditions and she was missing two of the six weeks of rehearsals. So, I'm sure that didn't help. But, as always with this company, even the smaller roles give the kids a chance to shine on stage! Avery got to showcase her dance skills quite a bit! :) And it's always fun to see Avery and Beckett on stage together!

Tech week wrapped up last night and tonight was opening night! Both Beckett and Avery gave us the impression the show was going to be less than great (ha!) based on how the rehearsals were going. Only Erin and I were able to go to the opening night show because the other kids all had sports/activities. We dropped the kids off at their call time and then grabbed a drink at Uncle Julio's beforehand.

The show was really cute and went much better than we (or Avery and Beckett) expected. The songs are really tough in this musical, which is why it's probably better for high school. If you've seen the movie, you know the theme is also a little more mature. The "Jr" version of this is a bit more kid-friendly.

Here is Avery in her dance team girl Sophie role. This is the scene in the gym where they are apologizing to their friends for mean things they said and then trust falling into their friends' arms.

"I'm sorry I said you were gap-toothed. It's not your fault you're so gap-toothed"

Here she is singing "I'd Rather Be Me" with Janis (in the middle) and some other kids.

Here she is as the mathletes moderator. She and Beckett are in this scene together.

And this is the last scene at the spring fling dance.

Avery and Beckett did great! 3 more shows to go! :)

1st Rehearsal

The first rehearsal for Matilda was Tuesday night. There are a lot of younger kids in this show! Avery and Beckett had fun reading through lines and learning the songs. Can't wait to see the show!

Matilda Jr.

This past Tuesday night, Avery and Beckett auditioned for the next musical the Academy is doing (which is Matilda Jr.). Miss Haley is directing this time, along with Miss Caliegh and Miss Keely. Avery has previously taken voice lessons with Miss Haley and just loves her. The auditions went for about 1.5 hours and the kids took turns singing and reading lines for the various roles they wanted to audition for. They were also holding auditions on Saturday for people who couldn't come Tuesday night, so we had to wait until Saturday night to hear the casting decisions! We were really excited to see that both Beckett and Avery have great roles in the show! Avery will be the teacher Miss Honey and Beckett is Matilda's dad, Mr. Wormwood. We are looking forward to seeing them on stage together!

Cinderella - the final show

The final Cinderella show was for the other cast, so Avery was supposed to be the ensemble role. But, in the morning, we got an email that one of the other cast members was ill. They asked if Avery could come early and learn the role and fill in. She said yes, of course. When we got to the theater, we learned that the girl who was playing Joy in this cast was also ill and not coming. So, Avery got to play Joy again! They were down four castmates for the final show! The kids did great even with the hiccup!

Getting ready for the ball!

Stepsister's Lament -

A Lovely Night -

The show was great! Here they are doing their final curtain calls!

As always, Avery had a blast being a part of the show! A lot of the girls returned from the previous two shows she was in and there were new ones for this show that she became friends with! We are so proud of her and love watching her shine on stage! :)
