Quarantine - Day 19: Spring Break - Hotel Plothow

Second Day of Spring Break

I got an idea from Facebook that seemed pretty fun, so what the heck... let's do it! We can't go anywhere else, so let's turn our house into a hotel. Welcome to Hotel Plothow! The girls got to pack a bag and check-in in the morning. We had loads of fun activities scheduled for the day. This was a super fun day for the girls, but it was super exhausting for the hotel staff. ;)

Daddy was the bell-hop
Morgan stayed in room 220. We provided our guests with a little pack of necessities in case they forgot something.

Avery was in room 210.

Lots of activities to choose from...

We started the day off in the hotel spa... manicures, hair styles and make-up!

Then, it was off to the tea party. The girls wanted to try actual hot tea. They were not fans, even with sugar cubes. Ha!

Then we painted rocks. The girls school provided rocks for everyone to paint and add uplifting messages on. So, we painted them today and will add the notes on them once they dry.

Lunchtime in the dining room. So funny to listen to them chatting.

There are some girl scout cookies with phrases on them, so I asked them what they said. Morgan's said "I am gutsy", which she read as "I am gusty". Avery chimes in, "does that mean she's gassy?" Of course, this was the funniest thing ever to them and lots of giggles followed!

After lunch, they had some relaxation time in their rooms. They got to order room service, which was super fun because we normally don't allow them to eat in their rooms.

We also had a scavenger hunt later that ended with LOL surprise dolls as the prize.

A little nature walk... a few days ago, the city came around and officially closed off all the parks so people would stop playing at them. They put caution tape around all the equipment and big signs up banning people from entering.

We didn't make it through all the activities during the day, but we did do quite a lot. They were exhausted by the time they went to bed. So, were the bell-hop, chef, activity director and front desk staff.

Quarantine - Day 18: Spring Break - Half Birthday Party!

First day of Spring Break

Matt and I had already scheduled to be on PTO,  so we aren't planning to work too much during the week. We needed to have some stuff to do, so we aren't just hanging out staring at each other for 5 days!

So to give us something fun to do, we celebrated the girls half birthday (a week early). Avery loves LOL dolls and Morgan loves horses. We got a few half birthday presents for the girls. They were so excited for this day that they both got up super early. Just like Christmas, we made them wait a little bit.

They got a few barbies, LOLs and the LOL Camper.

We ordered Yard House for lunch, which is usually a favorite of theirs. It definitely wasn't as good carry-out as it is when you eat there. But, they still got the rice krispie treats for dessert. We saved half for their dinner so we could sing happy half birthday to them. :)

Quarantine - Day 17: Crystals and Separate Bedrooms!

Today, President Trump extended social distancing for another 30 days through the end of April. We knew this was coming, but still don't like hearing it. I will be really happy when the virus peaks and we start to see some improvements. Then, at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For now, we'll try to remember what day it is (not an easy task!), stay sane (wine helps!) and keep the kids as happy as we can.

It was a busy day here. The girls were really excited to see that the experiment to make crystals actually worked! There were even crystals in the bowl! So cool!

Someone in our house has a sense of humor. :)

The past month or so, Morgan has been sleeping in a different room than Avery. Both girls have expressed an interest in moving to separate rooms. We asked them a few times and made sure they truly wanted to be apart. Of course, they did and so what better time to make the big move then when you are stuck at home. So we move Avery's loft bed into the 4th bedroom and moved the queen size bed from there into the spot where her bed had been.

We had one snafu when we tried to move the loft bed part through the bathroom. We ended up having to take off the headboard to get it unstuck and through to the other room.

We finally got all the pieces moved into the other room!

Both girls are loving their new rooms! Morgan said she wanted to decorate hers with half lions and half dogs. Avery said she wanted her room to feel like she was a princess in a castle. So, we have some work to do on decorating!

The boys came over for a playdate in the afternoon. While they were here, our power went out. I called Comed and they said it would be a couple of hours before it came back on. So, we went over to the Wilkens' house. The kids ended up eating dinner over there with their cousins.

Aunt Erin has the best desserts!

We also toasted to Erin's new job! Interviewing during a pandemic and quarantine is not easy. I'm not sure how starting a new job during this time will go either, but I'm sure she will do awesome!

Since Matt stayed home, he missed the toast. Erin sent some home for him! As you can see, our power did come back on. Yay!

Quarantine - Day 16: Clubhouses

Today, I decided to clean out a few closets so the girls could each have a "clubhouse". They had so much fun decorating their little spaces. And on the plus side, this kept them entertained for a good part of the day! Matt helped them make signs for the doors and they even held club meetings! Avery made some rules (rurls) for her club.

Grandma Ruth sent us a folder of fun experiments and things to do while we are stuck at home. Avery loved that she sent everything in a folder and wrote "Fun Folder" on it! :) We tried out one of the experiments to make crystals. Check back tomorrow to see if it worked!

Quarantine - Day 15: Wilken School and Make Your Own Pizzas

We made it through another week. We couldn't have done it without Erin's help and the help of the Wilken School!

Today was wear blue day at Wilken School. We actually forgot until we were walking out the door and realized we all had blue on anyway! Ha! Although, it looks like Morgan changed into a purple shirt at Wilken School, because she isn't wearing her shirt in any of these pictures. Hmmm.

Scavenger Hunt winners

Both wearing a Columbia coat

Game time

Chalk creations on the sidewalk

Looks awesome!

Story and jokes from Mama during lunchtime

Wonder what she said here?!?

Every day is face painting day at Wilken School

Pink leopard

Cousins!
We finished off the day baking chocolate (and other random) chip cookies and make your own pizzas. Avery wanted to help cut the veggies with Matt. She thought wearing swim goggles would stave off the tears that come when you chop onions. Ha!

Today, we were supposed to fly out to Florida and start our Spring Break at Disney. We're trying to think of a few interesting things to do next week so we still have a little fun on our modified Spring Break.
