Invention Convention

The girls were learning about different inventors at school. They each got assigned one to research and give a speech about. They had to build a replica of the invention. Avery got assigned Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the 3 position stop light. Morgan got assigned John Logie Baird, the inventor of the television.

Here are pictures from their school speeches. They made "costumes" to wear - ha!

Saturday

Avery sold Girl Scout cookies with her friend Bianca on Saturday morning. It was really chilly and not too many people were out, but they still sold over 100 boxes in two hours.

Then we went to Downer's Delight for lunch.

Lunch selfie!

President's Day

We had today off of work and school and luckily it was really nice outside!

Avery had an orthodontist appointment in the morning. Next time they will talk about removing the braces! She can't wait! She already has a list of the first things she wants to eat when she gets them off! Ha!

We spent some time outdoors and even got the bikes down from storage!

Funtopia

We checked out a place in Naperville that we hadn't been to before called Funtopia. It was a rock-climbing / obstacle course / ropes course type place for kids. I can't believe we haven't been here before! The girls loved it and were so exhausted by the time we left. Each kid gets a harness, then you walk around to the different walls, hook in and climb.  Each wall has a yellow triangle at the bottom with the latching system. The girls got really good at latching and unlatching themselves at the walls.

It's exhausting! :)

The ropes course was above us. Morgan asked us later what would happen if she fell. We said the rope she was attached to would stop her from falling. She said "well, you didn't tell me THAT!" Um, whoops! She probably walked through the whole thing completely freaking out!

I couldn't believe Avery did it. She's pretty scared of heights.

Climbing the buildings like Spiderman!

Here's a bunch of videos we took:

Happy Birthday to Papa!

We celebrated Papa's birthday and Valentine's Day (and Lucy's birthday, too!)

Avery helped make all the goodies ahead of time with Mama and Aunt Erin.

There were crafts, cookie decorating and games to play!

Morgan worked on her bubble blowing skills!

We sang Happy Birthday to Papa (and Lucy!)

Papa got lots of nice gifts from everyone!

Then we made harmonicas out of popsicle sticks!

Harmonica concert

All the cuties together!

Here's Happy Birthday on the "harmonicas"!

Sparring

Morgan has been going to the upper level classes at karate in anticipation of getting her next belt. In these classes, they spar with full gear on. You really aren't supposed to make contact, but it's hard not to. She does pretty well!

Pottery class

The Brownies went to a pottery class and made bowls. Avery had fun decorating her clay and painting it. We will post the picture of the final product once we get it back. They were going to fire it in the oven.

Valentine Boxes

The girls had to make boxes for their valentine's to take to school.

Then, Morgan had to stack up all the washi tapes.

Karate barefoot challenge

With the big snow we had, they cancelled karate. But, they gave everyone a challenge to do at home! Do a karate form in the snow BAREFOOT!

Morgan first did it on the driveway after Matt had shoveled. Then, she saw other kids had done it in the snow, so she did it in the deep snow as well!

Snow day lunch fun

Decided to make some fun lunch today to celebrate having a day off of school!

We tried making heart shapes out of our crescent rolls.

It was moderately successful.

Then the girls added bananas, peanut butter and chocolate sauce!
