Morgan

So, I finally got around to going through all the stuff the kids brought home from school the last day. I found some really sweet stuff that Morgan's teacher had gifted the kids. She gave them each a little class picture in a frame, a clipboard with their names on it and a personalized sheet with some nice things about them! I love this!

Last Day of School

We made it! The last day of school was a half day on Wednesday.

Just a comparison to the beginning of year...

They were supposed to have an after school party but the weather was looking pretty iffy, so they downsized the party some. The kids got pizza and ice cream and there was a reptile show in the gym.  There was even a fun photo booth!

Afterwards, we had a cookout at our house with a couple of the girls friends' families. Matt made brisket and all the kiddos had a fun time. We lucked out that the rain stopped and they were able to do water balloons and giant bubbles after all!

Morgan helped with the brisket preparation the day before

Bubbles!

Field Day

The girls' school held a field day on Friday and I volunteered to help out. I got assigned the "base running" activity with another 3rd grade mom. It was such a gorgeous day and the kids had a blast! I got class pictures of each of the girls' classes.

Chicago Style Hot Dog

The girls had an assignment for school to make a Chicago classic. They could choose from Chicago Style Hot Dog, Chicago Style Pizza or one of their own creations. Morgan picked the Chicago Style Hot Dog. We went to the store and picked up the necessities. Then, she did all the work to make lunch. I was surprised she actually tried one with all the toppings... she ended up eating one with a lot less toppings!

No visitors allowed

It was one of those days... Morgan was having a rough time and most definitely needed some alone time. This was the note she left on her door.

Friends

Avery wrote a story with her friend Maebel at school for a Young Authors competition. They "won" for their grade. Truth be told, I'm not sure how many kids entered and how many "won", but we're still really proud of all the hard work the kiddos put into their story. It was called "Friends" and was about two girls who started out as best friends at the same school, but ended up moving a few times and changing schools but remained best friends throughout all of it.

I wish it would rain...

Just a little something I saw hanging on the walls at school when I was volunteering the other day. :)

Open House

The girls' school had Open House tonight. We went to each of their classrooms to see what they have been up to. Then, we walked all around the school to check out the other classrooms (and classroom pets!)

Here are a few of the things they had for us to look at in their classrooms...

Invention Convention

The girls were learning about different inventors at school. They each got assigned one to research and give a speech about. They had to build a replica of the invention. Avery got assigned Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the 3 position stop light. Morgan got assigned John Logie Baird, the inventor of the television.

Here are pictures from their school speeches. They made "costumes" to wear - ha!

Halloween at school

The school had Halloween this year with actual classroom parties! Yay! :)

The kids had to wear their costumes to school and couldn't bring any props, so Toto and Avery's magic wand had to stay home.

Despite the rain, the principal decided to have the Halloween parade for the parents. The kids LOVE this! We were all standing around with our umbrellas in the mist, but it was great to see the kids' costumes.

Hermione Granger and Dorothy Gale

Morgan made the weekly school newsletter - a pic with her friends!
