E-learning... again

It was freezing cold outside (literally!), so the girls had an e-learning day. If the temperature is below -25 degrees (regular or with the wind chill), school is canceled.

That night, we decided to do bust out the Jelly Belly's. The girls each got a set of Jelly Belly's for Christmas, so we gave them a try. They were delicious!

E-Learning Day

We got a bunch of snow and high winds, so school was canceled. The girls had an e-learning day at home. Our school is doing construction next summer, so we can't have any true snow days off. They don't want to extend the school year any more than they have to. We already had to add a day for the heat days when the start of school was delayed in August.

Avery worked in her room at her desk.

Morgan worked in the loft.

Each of their classes had a little show-and-tell time. The girls both brought Milo for their show-and-tell! I love that Milo is in the screen shot the teacher sent out to everyone! Top middle - front and center!

They had to be on Google meet until lunchtime, then had some independent work in the afternoon. It went really smoothly. They did get a lot of practice during the pandemic. :)

Quarantine - Day 13: Walking on Sunshine And Zoom Meetings

I woke up to a post on Facebook from the teachers at the girls school. They had put together a video of them all dancing to "Walking on Sunshine". They added a sweet message at the end, too. Of course, I lost it when I watched it. I cried because it was super sweet. I cried because I hate that this is the life the girls are dealing with now. I cried because I don't know when life will be back to normal for them. Ugh. So much uncertainty.

The girls absolutely loved the video and watched it multiple times.

Today for e-learning, we had our first Zoom meetings for the girls' classes.

Avery's class met first and it went pretty well. The kids were excited to see all of their friends on the screen. Avery's teacher read a book to them and then had them each say something they've been up to. Avery was really excited to talk. :)

Morgan's class met second and it was kind of chaos. I had a hard time hearing her teacher. Morgan was really nervous about speaking and didn't want to respond when the teacher said "hi".  Her friend Gwen kept saying "hi" to her and she finally responded. Her face was a gigantic smile the whole time, though. :)

Such different kids. And such different teachers. I've said it before and I'll say it again now, the girls each got the perfect teacher for them. Avery's teacher is stricter and more focused on the schoolwork, which is great since Avery is very studious and loves learning. Morgan's teacher is laid back and deals well with Morgan's lack of excitement for sitting still and being quiet at school. She finds a way to get Morgan to learn, even though she doesn't really want to. Ha!

It was Wacky Wednesday at Wilken School today.

Quarantine - Day 6: Wacky Wednesday

Another day of e-learning on the books.

The boys came over on their walk and we all enjoyed a snack and some story time. Wacky Wednesday was the book being ready. Fitting for today.

There are many efforts to keep people cheered up around the area. I can't keep up with them all! Here's one where you put different things in your windows each day, so everyone can see them on their daily walks outside.

Quarantine - Day 5: 1st Day of E-Learning

The girls spent the morning at the Double JJ riding club doing a private animal adventure camp with their cousins. Erin had arranged it to have something for the kids to do and give us a break to get some work done. They had a blast!

This was the first official day of e-learning! The teachers sent us a schedule and put together some packets of papers to pick up from school to work on. Since the girls have different teachers, I get every email or communication in Seesaw twice. By the end of the day, I had gotten 100+ emails and notifications. The one good thing is that the two first grade teachers are using the same lesson plan, so we don't have to figure out different work for each kiddo. There were some snags to e-learning day #1, but hopefully they were resolved and the other days will go more smoothly.
