Loras camp

The girls had a blast at Loras all sports camp this past week! They were busy from morning until bedtime with sports and fun activities. Like they literally left their rooms after breakfast and didn't get back to the dorms until time to get ready for bed. We didn't get to talk to them all week, but the camp posted pictures on Facebook so I at least knew they were alive! Avery roomed with Maebel. Morgan roomed with Katherine. Quite a few other kids they knew from school were at the camp the same week as them. Avery majored in Gymnastics and minored in tennis and aerial silks. Morgan majored in tennis and minored in ice skating and volleyball.

The girls with their roommates

From the activities on the first night

Water races the first night

Huddle meeting the first night

Morgan minored in ice skating

Nightly team building activities

Seems like she had fun! :)

Avery was in a different huddle

Morgan majored in tennis

Avery majored in gymnastics - this was the only picture I got of her doing her major

They had a dance party one of the nights

This was probably their favorite night

On Thursday, they got their paddles and the brand they earned during the week

Avery got love (heart) and Morgan got dedication (looks like Olympic rings)

We went up for the Olympics on the last day
So many kids!!!

They were ready for some air conditioning! :)

Avery's huddle group

I'm so glad (and relieved) they did so well being away from home for a week without being able to talk to us. I was worried about leaving them, especially because it was so hot and they were staying in a dorm with no air conditioning. And they have not stayed away from home longer than a night or two before. They are already looking forward to going next year!

That's a wrap on ACS summer camp!

The girls had their last day of ACS summer camp... they have now aged out of that camp! They met lots of great kids and made many new friends during their years going to ACS summer camp. I don't know what they'll do next year when they can't go back! :(

Avery had a performance for her Actor's Workshop class. And yes, that's Beckett in there, too!

Cousins selfie

The boys caught a ride with us to camp on Tuesday, so of course, Avery took a selfie!

Summer camp!

The girls had their first day of summer camp this week! They are doing the Avery Coonley summer camp for 4 weeks to kick off the summer.

They were a little disappointed that their summer camp friends were not going to be at camp until the second session. At least they'll have two weeks of camp with them!

Milo was sad that the girls were ditching him again! He had gotten used to them being home for a week! :)

It's that time again...

You have to plan way in advance for summer activities! The camp registrations start in late January/early February for most things around here and sell out fast! The Loras summer camp sign up was in early December for July.

The girls are going to two session at Avery Coonley again this year. They really love that camp and they've made friends with kids from other schools there. This will be their last year to go since it only goes through 8th grade. I was able to get them registered for everything except one class is waitlisted for Morgan. I think Avery must have gotten the last spot because I clicked to add her and then clicked to add Morgan and Morgan was waitlisted. Hopefully, someone drops out so Morgan can be in the class!

Summer Camps - Voice Camp, Dance Camp & Teen Trekkers

Avery was in a voice camp and a dance camp this week while Morgan did the Teen Trekkers with the park district.

Morgan's camp took her on a few fun field trips. They went to Scrimms, Lincoln Park Zoo, PuttShack and Cypress Cove. She wasn't a huge fan of the camp, though, because in the afternoon they had "free/phone time". And since she doesn't have a phone yet, she did not really enjoy that time. I ended up picking her up early most days. Here she is in her bright swim shirt they all had to wear!

Avery did the dance camp through DGN put on by the Athenas. It was a two night camp with a short show at the end. There were a lot of kids there!

Avery's voice camp had a short performance at the end of the week. There were four girls in her camp. They got to pick the songs to sing, make programs, come up with the choreo and even decorate shirts. She had a lot of fun!

Wrapping up another session of ACS Camp

Today was the last day of the second session at ACS summer camp. We are only doing two sessions this year. The girls both just love this camp, so it was kind of sad for it to be ending this summer already! Next year will be their last year as it stops after 8th grade.

Avery's Actor's Workshop class had a performance this morning. She and her friend Maggie wrote and performed a skit called the job interview.

Afterwards, they all went on stage and did their final bows!

Summer camp is in full swing!

The girls started summer camp on Monday at Avery Coonley. We first did this camp back in 2019, then took a break in 2020 due to Covid, but have been going every summer since. They have three 2-week sessions each summer and offer some fun classes, both academic and recreational. We are only doing two of the sessions this year because we will be on vacation one of the weeks of the last session.

For this session, Avery is doing three classes: (1) Sculpture, (2) How to Win Games and Influence People and (3) Lights/Camera/Action (LCA). The LCA class is a longer class and meets in the afternoon. They write, film and edit a short movie that they show to the parents at the end of the session.

For this session, Morgan is doing two classes: (1) How to Win Games and Influence People and (2) Natural Disasters. The second one is taught by the science teacher from Herrick, her middle school next year. Morgan has always been fascinated by storms, etc, so I thought it would be a fun class for her. Of course, she was a little mad that I made her do something "school-y" during the summer. :)

Here they are ready to go for Tropical Day at camp!

Acting Camp

The girls participated in an acting camp this week at the Academy where Avery has done a few musicals recently. They learned a little play during the week and then performed it for everyone at the end of the week. Morgan played the judge and Avery played a prosecutor. The play was the trial of the Big Bad Wolf.

For the part, Morgan wanted to curl her hair. We put curlers in her hair over night to see if that worked.

It turned out great!

She looked like a star! :)

The show was really cute and the kids did a great job!
