2 days at school = Covid

Well, we made it two days at school and then this happened... Avery woke up Sunday morning feeling really awful. She just slept on the couch for awhile. Milo tried to make her feel better with his cuddles, but it didn't work. :(

She just kept sleeping... we moved upstairs and hung out in the master bedroom watching movies. Well, I watched them, she slept through most of them.

Then, Monday morning she woke up feeling a little better. About an hour after she woke up, she became super congested with such a runny nose. So, I tested her for Covid and it came back positive. I was kind of surprised (not sure why), so I did a second test. Both clearly positive. Ugh.

Protocol for school now is that the kids have to quarantine for 5 days after the initial symptoms and then they can come back to school. While on quarantine, they will get assignments and call in to class for lessons so they don't have to take sick days (as long as they are feeling up for it).

A couple of Avery's friends wrote her cards and had all of her friends sign it. So cute!

Oh and by the way, turns out Avery's class has a little outbreak of Covid. I think there were 5 or 6 kids with it after the first two days! Morgan's class did not have any kids out with Covid.

Covid or ???

A sign of the times... any time you get a runny nose, cough, headache, sore thumb, etc. you need to take a Covid test. Luckily, this one was negative!

Covid: the souvenir no one asked for

Woke up Monday morning with a sore throat and a runny nose. So, I signed up for a PCR test at Westmont Immediate Care. (Drive thru PCR tests with results back usually the same day!) This is where we took Avery before when she got tested. But, since then they have moved the testing to a parking lot at the Hilton Hotel to accommodate all the traffic. When I got there, I was probably about 40 cars back. It moved pretty quickly. You have the option of the throat swab or the nose swab. I picked throat swab. The lady scraped my throat like 4 times!

Got the results back later that night... positive for Covid. Here is my diet for the next few days. :)

I'm camped out in the spare bedroom away from everyone else. I'm really hoping I can keep my cooties away from the rest of the fam!

The girls delivered me an "Amazon" package with cute little notes and some goodies. So sweet of them!

Vaccine #2 in the books!

The girls got their second COVID vaccine at the follow up clinic they did at the high school. It was the same set up as before, so they knew what to expect. They were still a little worried, but did really well. Morgan decided to get the shot in her arm this time, but Avery stuck to the leg. Matt and I even got our boosters while we were there. Afterwards, we sat in the auditorium where they had water, lollipops and Cat in the Hat playing on the movie screen. We ran into a few other kids from the girls' school and Morgan's karate class.

As for side effects, we were all pretty wiped out about 6-7 hours later. We spent some time vegging out on the couch with iPads. Avery felt a little warm and Morgan had a headache. I had a headache as well, so we all took some Tylenol. Luckily, I didn't have the 4 day headache like I had after shot #2. My headache was gone the next day. The girls went to school the next day and were fine.

Vaccine #1 down

The girls got their first vaccine at the clinic the high school in our area had. The clinic was run really well. We had an early appointment and got through pretty quickly. They had the kids sit in the auditorium for 15 minutes afterwards to watch for reactions, while watching a Bee Movie clip. They had water and lollipops, so the girls were happy about that. They both were sore at the shot site, but that was about it for the reaction to the first shot. They get their second one in 3 weeks! Here's to being fully vaccinated! Now if we could just stop having to wear these stupid masks everywhere... ugh.

Got my 2nd vaccine

Matt got his earlier this week and had a down day feeling really fatigued. I got mine on Friday and didn't have the total fatigue that he did. But, I had a headache for four days (and to be honest, I have still been getting headaches since and I never used to get headaches... so this is annoying!). But, hey, we're vaccinated! :)

Getting vaccinated!

We finally were able to book an appointment to get our first vaccines! DMG set up a vaccine clinic in an old business building in Lisle. There were areas to sit to wait to be called, then cubicles like in an office where you go in to get the shot. Afterwards, you sit in the waiting area for 15 minutes to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction, socially distanced of course.
