Spring Break: Saturday

This was the only picture I took on our last day - ha! We finally were adjusted to San Diego time, so it was rough getting up this early. We were told that the shuttles from the car rental center to the airport terminal could be sparse at 5:00 AM, so we wanted to make sure we gave ourselves plenty of time in case we were waiting on that. Luckily, we caught a shuttle right as we were getting off the escalator after dropping our car off. We made it through security pretty quickly and grabbed some breakfast while waiting for our flight to board. The flight home was shorter, but a little bumpier. There were a few times they made everyone including the flight attendants sit down, which freaked Morgan out. She has developed a fear of flying, so she was very aware of every little bump, etc. We made it home, grabbed some lunch and picked up Milo from boarding. He was really excited to see us. And then he came home and crashed!

Spring Break: Friday

On Friday, we slept in a bit and then walked down to Kono's for breakfast. This place is a popular spot and the line can be down the boardwalk to get in. You order from the counter and they bring you your food... if you can find a seat. We lucked out that it wasn't too crowded when we got there. The food was delicious and huge!

The girls had a surf lesson in the late morning, so we walked to the surf school, which was just down the boardwalk from our hotel. They got fitted for wetsuits.

And goofed around while we waited for the instructor.

Learning how to get up on the board.

After a bit of practice on sand, they hit the waves! Avery did pretty well from the start. The instructor had said her dance experience would help her a lot. Once she got up on the board, she was able to balance pretty well.

Morgan was a little more of a wild card! It was harder for her to balance on the board. She wiped out quite a few more times than Avery, but she kept trying! She eventually got it figured out. The instructor let them have a little extra time in the water, which was nice.

Oh, this is when the girls got all tangled up! The instructor had to come over and help them out. They had to remove their ankle straps and separate!

Avery was doing really well riding the waves in!

Here's Morgan staying up on the board.

She was SO happy this time that she made it all the way in!

Avery says to me when they finished... I can't feel my feet! The water was so cold, her feet were numb! Good thing they had the wetsuits. They both had so much fun and said they would do it again!

We got back to the hotel and the girls asked if they could get frozen drinks even if it wasn't Happy Hour. Of course, it's our last day and it's gorgeous outside!

We were off schedule today since we ate breakfast late, so we ended up just grabbing a quick lunch in the afternoon at the Hideaway. Morgan wanted to get the pretzel one more time before we left San Deigo!

After lunch, the girls and I did some souvenir shopping while Dad went to gas up the car.

We made it back to the hotel for our last round of freshly baked cookies!

The girls grabbed a soccer ball from the hotel and we went down to the beach for a bit.

Soaking up as much beach time as we can before we have to leave.

We spent some time packing up our bags and getting ready for our early wake-up on Saturday. Our flight was at 7:00 AM, so we had to be up at 4:30 to get to the airport. We ordered some apps from room service since we had eaten lunch so late and we weren't really that hungry. There was a beautiful sunset our last night!

Spring Break: Thursday

On Thursday, we drove to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which was about an hour outside of San Diego. The weather was really nice for this zoo trip! We got to see a lot of really cool animals and take a safari ride!

Hard to see, but he's munching on a huge hunk of raw meat

Morgan is standing in front of a waterfall - turned out kind of interesting!

Bald Eagle

The whole park was beautiful!

There was a balloon ride you could take if you weren't afraid of heights :)

We took the Wildlife Safari for 60 minutes through "Africa" and got to see a few animals just hanging out.

I particularly liked the giraffes and rhinos.

After the safari, we walked the zoo, which was huge!

Albino kangaroo

We had lunch at the Watering Hole that overlooked the area where we had gone on our safari. It was such a beautiful day!

The girls got a kids meal that came in a cute bag with these cookies

Our view at lunch!

Morgan is getting better at the selfie stick

There is an animal called the Dik-Dik. The Zoo had one, but it was not out due to the rain. The Safari Park had one, but it was not out either. Avery was so disappointed because she got such a kick out of the animal's name! ;)

Morgan was super excited they had churros at the park

We did SO much walking. On the drive back to the hotel, Avery totally crashed in the backseat with her new stuffed animal! :)

We made it back to the hotel for cookie time and more Happy Hour drinks!

Morgan would swim until dark if we let her!

Such a goofball!

We went to Duck Dive for dinner, which was good. We had tried to go there the other day and it was too busy. Afterwards, we went for dessert at the Baked Bear, which is a make your own ice cream sandwich. You get to pick your cookies and ice cream and they build the sandwich for you. It was delicious!

Avery and I just got ice cream and a cookie because we were so full from dinner.
