Milo's a good snuggler

Morgan was relaxing after her Team MC game. They lost 42-17. St. Charles is the one of the best teams in the league. The only team they've lost to is Geneva.

Feeling yucky

Just when you thought you were over Flu A and it was safe to go back to school... you get pneumonia! Poor kiddo!

Sky Zone

Morgan was feeling crappy, so Avery and her friend Maggie went to Sky Zone to burn off some energy on MLK day. Little did I know they planned out their outfits ahead of time. As Erin said, that's such a girl move! The place was a zoo at first but started to clear out a bit by the end of the time we were there.

TikTok

Well, it happened. TikTok (and CapCut) are dark. I think Morgan is pretty upset about CapCut. :)

Rough B-ball game

Morgan was just starting to feel a little better, but really didn't want to miss her basketball game. They were short on players to begin with and ended up pulling Maebel in to play. Morgan had been in bed for three days, so not a lot of moving around. Also, not a lot of eating, so she was pretty low on energy. At the game, I found out from another mom that her daughter also had the Flu A this week like Morgan. Another girl had strep and another one was not feeling well during the game. So, there were three girls that had to keep subbing in and out to rest. Morgan made it about 2 minutes into the game before she needed to take a break. She also had a major coughing fit right before halftime and her coach was worried she'd throw up. So, we spent some time outside breathing in the cold air, which helped. They ended up losing the game 25-28, but if all the girls were feeling 100%, they would have been able to win.

Resting on the way to the game

When she was in the game, she played well, but got tired easy. She wasn't her normally fast self! She got fouled a few times and made one free throw.

Hoping a few days of rest for the long weekend will be exactly what she needs to kick this flu!

Long week for this girl

Morgan started feeling bad on Tuesday and by Wednesday morning she was under the weather. She said she wanted to stay home from school, which is not typical for her. She ended up with a really high fever, body aches, a cough and slept all afternoon. On Thursday, she was feeling even worse and had an even higher fever! We went to the doctor and found out she had Flu A. We kept pushing liquids and Tylenol and sleep. She started feeling a little better on Friday and her fever dropped down to a more normal range (100-100.9).

So sleepy!

Busy weekend of dance, soccer and basketball

Our weekend kicked off with a Rhinestone Party for Avery at her dance company. It was on Friday night from 5 to 11pm, but we opted to pick her up at 9pm for "early pick-up". The dancers worked on their costumes for the competitions, bedazzling them with rhinestones! They also got pizza and had fun hanging out with their friends. Morgan, Matt and I went out to dinner at Neat, which is one of Morgan's favorite places!

On Saturday morning, Morgan had an early soccer game for the 2012 Girls Select team vs LTSC. It was a boring game for this goalie. She didn't have to make too many saves while playing goalie. She did get to play midfield for the second half of the game, which was a little more exciting. Her team won 2-0.

After lunch, Morgan had a home game for Team MC at Montini. We ran into Erin there because Hunter was playing on the court right before Morgan's team played. Morgan's team played against the Wolfpack and lost. It wasn't their best effort, but a couple players were feeling under the weather.

After the game, we relaxed a bit at home. One of the mom's of the Team MC players had coordinated an outing at PuttShack for all the girls to get together outside of basketball for some team bonding. This is the first season they've all played together. Most of the girls were able to join and they all had a fun time!

Sunday morning, there was another Team MC basketball game vs Wolfpack again, but this time at DG north high school. DGN had just gotten new scoreboards and they were awesome! The game was close and the girls did make a comeback, but just couldn't win in the end. Morgan had a rough game and ended up getting pretty upset. She's working on controlling her emotions, but spent some time on the bench because she was so upset. When she was in the game, she was aggressive and made some good plays. Here's a video of her going after the ball and getting a jump ball called.

After the game, we all took a breather. Morgan needed to decompress and have some lunch. We went to Smoothie King and City BBQ. Then, we hung out at home for a bit before the next game. We did discuss with Morgan the importance of keeping yourself under control in games, even when it's not going your way. It's tough when all you want to do is win and your team is brand new together playing against better, more established teams. Definitely a good lesson to learn. As her coach says, she needs more of a "goldfish mentality", learn from your mistakes and move on. She tends to dwell on them and get down on herself.

The last game of the weekend was on Sunday night in Geneva. We played this team last weekend and lost. They are the best team in the league and have beaten all the other teams by double digits. Again, we stressed to Morgan that even though you aren't winning, you need to play hard and keep your head up. She did so much better this game with her attitude, definitely a 180 from the earlier game. Her team only scored 10 points and she had 5 of them. She played aggressively until the end and didn't get down on herself. We were really proud of her!

A few videos from the game:

We won the jump ball!

Getting better at her ball handling and drawing fouls!

Getting her own rebounds and scoring!

So pretty!

Milo was getting a little scruffy, so we got him prettied up at the groomer on Tuesday! Look at this cutie sitting so nicely for his picture (there may have been a treat involved)!

Another basketball game, a lost tooth and some cousin time!

Morgan's team had a game vs Geneva on Sunday morning at Montini. Geneva is the 1st place team in the conference, basically beating all the other teams by double digits. So, we knew it would be a tough game. And it was! It didn't help that the referees were not calling fouls consistently (or at all in a lot of cases). Team MC (and Morgan) played tough. They ended up losing 19-32, but out scored the other team in the second half. I think the girls were definitely a little beat up after this game.

Morgan doing the jump ball. She's the tallest girl on her team.

Here is Morgan shooting a free throw. Check out her new kicks! They are fancy (and fit much better!)

A steal and a good play by Molly and Morgan.

Just a funny thing that happened when Frankie took the ball down for a lay-up.

We went out for lunch at Yard House after the game. While there, Avery took a bite into her grilled cheese and knocked her tooth a bit making it even looser. And within a few more minutes, she had it out! This is the second time she's lost a tooth at a restaurant.

After lunch, we decided to head back to Montini to watch Grayson's basketball game. He plays for Team MC as well (so does Hunter). Grayson's team won easily. The kids played a little 2 on 2 after the game.

Team MC Basketball game

Morgan's travel basketball team had a game Saturday morning in Batavia. The last time they played against the Batavia team, they lost 15-27. But Morgan's team is improving a lot each game. They ended up winning 23-11 this time! The girls were all really excited! Morgan played the entire game without any substitutions. So, she was exhausted afterwards. They usually only have 7 players for games, so there aren't a lot of subs anyway! Morgan is #30.

On a side note, after the game, she complained about her toes hurting. She said her shoes were too small. No surprise there, the shoes were from last January and her feet have grown a ton. Matt went with her to pick out new shoes and she ended up getting a women's size 10, which is like 2 sizes bigger than the ones she was wearing. So, that explains the sore toes.

Trip to the Dentist

Since we were off school, I had set up a dentist appointment for the girls. For some reason, Morgan was so nervous that she was going to have "like four cavities". But, everything turned out great. Zero cavities for either of them! Avery still has five teeth to lose (she's on the super slow path), but Morgan is all done and her permanent teeth are in.

We celebrated by getting sugary drinks from Starbucks on the way home - ha!

Happy New Year!

We spent New Year's Eve with the Wilkens at our house. Matt made prime rib for the adults and the kids got to make their own pizzas. We had our traditional balloon drop at "midnight"!

We played a few games. Here we are playing "Grab the Mic", which got a little intense! I was surprised at how many songs the kids know. They were really competitive!

Milo was the craziest of them all... he would not stop barking!

And this is where he ended up after we couldn't calm him down. He usually does better after a few minutes in jail.

Beckett was definitely the most decked-out person at the party!

The kids toasted to the New Year with their "wine".

Much better now... maybe he just wanted to wear some New Year's Eve gear!

Here's to another great year!
