Breakfast at the Holiday

Enjoying breakfast at our favorite neighborhood place

Eleven Months

The girls are doing a lot of the same things they did at 10 months, just more of it.

Moving around more
On Friday (9/13 at 11 months 1 week), Avery officially walked. Not just four or five steps where she ends up falling into one of us. She and Morgan have been doing that the past month. But, this time Matt and I were sitting on the couch and Avery turned around, let go of the couch and just walked on her own to the middle of the play area. We both looked at each other like, did that really just happen? Ever since then, she's been trying to walk all the time. Morgan has been watching her (and probably sees the attention we give Avery when she walks), and has tried a little more to walk. She's just not as confident to do it on her own yet. She will take a few steps, but someone has to be at the other end to catch her or she won't do it. I'm sure she'll figure it out soon.

Getting more independent
We've been working with the girls on feeding themselves and using sippy cups. They love their bottles, so sippy cups were a tough go at first. Especially for Avery. It also was trial and error to find sippy cups they both liked. But, we found a winner and both girls are doing really well now. We've been giving them more real food and letting them feed themselves. It's funny how totally different they eat. Avery scoops up handfuls of food with both hands and shoves it all in her mouth. Morgan, on the other hand, picks up each piece of food individually and eats it. Needless to say, Morgan is a slow eater and Avery is messier! It's hard not to want to help Morgan to speed things up.

More jibber jabber
If the girls are awake, it's noisy at our house. Morgan has perfected the high pitch girl scream. It could make your ears bleed! She is so LOUD! Morgan also has the best giggle! She loves smiling and laughing and flashing her mouthful of crooked teeth! Avery is still quieter than her sister, but she gets going with her babbling. Lots of ga-ga's and ma-ma's and da-da's. Avery is a big waver right now. Anytime she hears us say "hi", she starts waving. Her wave is the kind where she opens and closes her hand. Morgan will wave, too, but hers is more of a whole arm swing.

The girls are turning into little toddlers. I'm feeling sad that their first birthday is already just around the corner. The time is going by too fast!

No smiles, but at least she looked at the camera

Another year older...

Matt and I celebrated my birthday with dinner out at David Burke's Primehouse. It was sort of a dinner out for him, too, since we had to cancel his birthday plans. Grandma and Grandpa were in town to help us with some projects around the condo (we're prepping to sell the place), so they babysat.

The desserts at this place were awesome!

Napa Girls Trip

A few weeks ago, I met up with my high school friends for our annual girls trip. This year, my friend JJ had to be in San Francisco for work and we decided to tag along and extend her trip with a visit to Napa. I had never been to either SF or Napa. It was the longest I've been away from the girls ever!

The trip was great! We spent the first night in San Francisco. We drove around the city, saw the Golden Gate Bridge, had some yummy seafood, rode on a trolley and caught up with all the craziness of each other's lives.

Then we drove out to Napa and started our weekend of wine off at In-N-Out Burger. Gotta get a good base. We drove around and stopped off at random wineries. Pretty much everywhere we went, the tastings included 1 white wine (either Chardonnay or Sav Blanc) and then 3 reds. My favorite types of wines are Sav Blanc and Cabernet, so I loved Napa!

On Saturday, we went to Heitz Wine Cellars (nice back patio area), Freemark Abbey (met the Cellar Mistress) and Castillo de Amarosa (took the tour of the whole castle). Our wine tasting at the castle was in the basement, which was pretty cool. When the tour guide said, if you are claustrophobic, you may have a problem because we are going to be in the caves for the next hour and a half... I was a little worried. I'm usually not good with caves and tight spaces. I think the wine helped, though! :)

On Sunday, we booked a tour so that no one had to be a designated driver. We stopped off at Flora Springs (super cute tour guide), Hill Wine Company (dog friendly winery), Rutherford Ranch (chocolate and wine pairings = awesome!), and St. Clair Brown ("urban" winery in the city limits of Napa).

We drank lots of wine, enjoyed the beautiful weather and relaxed = a perfect weekend!
