After school treats

Avery and Lizzie decided to make Rice Krispie treats after school. Matt had found these fruit flavored Rice Krispies (which look like Fruity Pebbles), so they used those. The girls did a great job and the treats turned out yummy! They were super marshmallow-y!

Mite bites... yuck!

And if the cicadas weren't enough, we now have MITES! We are getting these bites that are like mosquito bites, but they last forever! And they are super itchy! According to the news, they are so small that they fit through screens. The school even sent out an email about it! Ugh.

Hot day hair do

Avery asked for the gymnast hair do again because it was super hot outside! School wasn't cancelled (we had AC now!), but they did have indoor recess and PE because the heat index was over 100 degrees!

Milo's Perch

This is where Milo likes to camp out during the day watching people walk by the house. It's like the perfect little set up so he can rest his head on the window sill. :) He always runs to sit there when the girls leave for school, which is around 8:00.

Pool Day - summer's not over yet!

We went to the pool on Sunday for a few hours to try to soak up the remaining summer days! It was super hot and the pool was packed! We were lucky to get some chairs in the shade. Otherwise, we might not have stayed as long as we did.

Packed!

Batter up!

Morgan is playing softball this season. She hasn't played since she was six and barely remembers that! But, she really wanted to give it a try and we can work with her soccer schedule this fall to let her be on the team. She got a new batting helmet, bat and shoes. Good luck for a fun season!

G2011 Select Soccer Tournament

The soccer season has kicked off for Morgan and she had her first soccer tournament this weekend. As backstory, the G2011 Select team lost a lot of players since the spring season. They only have 8 players left (and they now play 11 v 11 at this age). Morgan is on the G2012 Select team, which has 14 girls on the roster. She was born 10/5/2012, so she's one of the youngest players on her team. The coach for both teams is the same, Coach Andres. So, he has six girls from the G2012 team playing up on the G2011 team. Also, both teams lost their goalies, so we have no official goalie. Morgan has played goalie before and likes it, so she volunteered to play goalie some of the games. The coach is going to rotate players at goalie.

The first tournament was in Montgomery, IL, which was about 40 minutes away.

The first game was Saturday morning at 9:30 AM... the weather was crappy! It rained off and on the whole game. Morgan started out as goalie for the first half. She did great and didn't allow any goals.

Then, she played mid-field. Here she is playing in the downpouring rain!

They ended up winning 2-1. We grabbed some lunch and relaxed a bit at home before the next game.

We came better prepared for this game... we borrowed Aunt Erin's pod! Of course, the game was sunny and nice, so it was not necessary!

Morgan played goalie the first half of the game again. There was one goal scored off of a corner kick (which by the way was awesome!) Then, she played mid-field for the second half. They ended up losing 0-1 this game.

We rested at home Saturday night. On Sunday morning, we had one more game at 9:30 AM. Before the game, Morgan decided we should recruit Milo for the goalie! :) He's ready to go in, coach!

He surprisingly did not try to chew off the shirt! Probably would have if we left it on much longer!

Morgan started off as goalie for the first half again. No goals were scored (for either team).

In the second half, she played mid-field.

The game took a bad turn in the second half with the girls getting really pushy. One girl on our team was pummeled a few times and was going back and forth with a girl on the other team. After the ball was dead on a play, as the girl on our team was walking away, the girl from the other team pushed her from behind. She got a red card for that poor sportsmanship. Then, the girl on our team got a yellow card. From what Morgan said, the girl on our team said "that's what you get, bitch" to the girl that got the red card and the referee overheard. So, of course, that wasn't tolerated either. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

The girls (and Coach Andres) were still happy with their performance at the tournament (1-1-1). Considering the 2011's have only practiced one week, lost half of their team (and goalie!), picked up six new girls from a younger team, they did pretty well. The coach said all the girls need to work on their chemistry with each other, which will come with time and practice together.

Celebrating the end of the first day of school

The first day of school went great for the girls! We celebrated by grabbing some Cocomero afterwards!

6th Grade

It was the first day of 6th grade! It's also our last "first" day of school at Whittier! The 6th graders all wear Hawaiian shirts on the first day (and on picture day later). Avery had a Safety Patrol post this morning, so we had to get to school a little early.

Here's Avery all ready for 6th grade!

And here's Morgan... ready for 6th grade!

And they're off to school!

Hope you have a great year, girls! We love you! :)

Back to School Haircuts

The girls got some much needed haircuts before heading back to school. The salon was packed with kiddso! Morgan got quite a bit off her hair. Avery just got a trim to clean up her ends.

Trip to the Dentist

Morgan had to get some sealants put on her teeth now that she's lost all of them and the new ones are in. Our dentist gives out little toys at the end of the visit and here is what Morgan picked out! Ha! :)

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to our favorite guy! We celebrated with Crumbl Cookies and some super tasty flavors of Ben and Jerry's! Here's to another great year! :)

School Supply Drop Off

On Tuesday, we went to the School Supply Drop Off / Back to School Bash. Our school has been undergoing major construction over the summer and they are still working on some final touches. The teachers were only allowed back in their classrooms on Monday. And they had to get all of their boxes from storage (nothing was left in their classrooms during construction). So, the kids just dropped off their stuff, but didn't get to see what desk they were going to have or unpack yet. I will say the updates look really nice, especially the bathrooms! And we can't forget that we now have air conditioning - yay!

Avery has Mrs. Miller this year and Morgan has Mrs. Zagorski. The 6th grade classrooms this year are where the Kindergartners were last year. Morgan is in the same classroom she was in for Kindergarten! :)

The new intermediate playground - so nice!

Popsicles!

Here's to a great year!
