So much Flu A this year!
For some reason, this year is the year of Flu A. Seems like everyone is getting it! Morgan had it back in January and was down for more than a week. She ended up with pneumonia afterwards. Seemed like she was never going to shake it!
Then, after the Super Bowl, my mom got Flu A really bad and was out of commission for two weeks. I also had something that same week, but never officially tested. I assumed it was Flu A because I felt like crap and just wanted to sleep all week! Just as I started feeling better, I got a sinus infection that was no fun. I had such pressure in my sinuses and such a bad headache that I was so dizzy! I finally felt better after a couple days of decongestant, Tylenol and sleep! It just happened to be on the day the girls had off for President's Day. Morgan had a made a checklist of all the fun things we were going to do that day and I was just not up for moving at all. I felt so bad that we couldn't do everything! Btw, Matt did take them shopping to Kohl's to pick out some fun stuff at Sephora.
And now, just as I started feeling better, Avery ended up with Flu A. She started feeling bad Tuesday after Acro class. Then, by Wednesday morning, she had a high fever and felt terrible. So, she's been home sleeping and binging TV shows with me while I work. I bought some of the home tests because there's no reason to go the doctor for a virus. When we tested Avery, it immediately showed up as Flu A - like no waiting 15 minutes... you got it! Poor kiddo is doing better but coughing like crazy.

Rough B-ball game

When she was in the game, she played well, but got tired easy. She wasn't her normally fast self! She got fouled a few times and made one free throw.

And then the flu hit our house...
Here she is on Day 1... still watching her iPad and hanging out with me on the couch.
It quickly turned into this... for days! No eating, just drinking. Lots of sleeping. Did not even want to play on her iPad. You know a kid is sick when they ditch the iPad!
I had signed the girls up for an American Girl party during this time. Avery was still ok, so I took her and Morgan stayed home (obviously!) During the party, Avery started feeling crappy. Ugh.
Another one is down... :(
I was really worried because Morgan sounded like she was wheezing, so I took her to the doctor. They tested her for the flu and she had Influenza B. By the way, Morgan HATED the flu test because they stick a plastic straw like thing way up your nose. She cried all the way home... "why did she have to do that?" Sorry, kiddo! So, back home we went with instructions to get lots of rest and push liquids. The doctor said Avery most likely had the same thing, so we didn't have to get her tested. We were told that since we all had the flu shot that hopefully that would decrease the duration and symptoms.
We spent the next week trying to keep the girls hydrated and rested.
Morgan finally started feeling better and actually sitting up, watching her iPad and eating a little bit. And mugging for the camera!
We got our Girl Scout cookie delivery during this time also. Yum!
Avery was still not doing so great. We tried hard to get her to eat, but this is what usually ended up happening. Luckily, she was drinking a lot of fluids. She actually lost quite a bit of weight for her size.
We thought Avery was finally turning the corner... she worked on her homework from school and watched Frozen 2. She got out of bed and even ate a little food! Didn't want to brush her hair, but oh well! She was fever free for a little bit.
But, then she spiked a fever overnight. Ugh! So, I took her to the doctor and found out she had developed pneumonia. So, a few more days home for her and some antibiotics and breathing treatments.
She finally started feeling better and we were all glad! The 1st grade class at their school was hit really hard by the flu. We would get reports from Morgan's teacher on how many kids were missing each day. There was one day that 11 of the 24 kids in Morgan's class were out sick!
Luckily, Matt and I avoided the flu, which was surprising for me considering how much time I spent with sick kiddos sleeping mere inches from my face!
