Avery

Morgan

She does really well sitting up these days (well, with the help of the Bumbo chair).
She's also started "standing" with help. She loves to straighten out her legs and stand up.
We try to let Avery stand up as well, but she's a little less sturdy and topples over pretty quickly. :)
Names
Just checked a listing of the most popular names from 2012... guess whose names are on the list?!? Yep, both Avery and Morgan made the top 100 most popular girls' names (according to Baby Center). Avery is #17 and Morgan is #85.
And since they are unisex names, I did check the boys' list and they are NOT on there.
People say to us "oh, I know a boy named that, but I don't know any girls" when we tell them our girls' names. I didn't even think of Morgan as being a boy's name before. Besides Morgan Freeman, I really didn't know of any male Morgans. I've heard Avery as a boy's name, though. We also didn't do the girls any favors by making their middle names unisex as well. But, they are spelled feminine - Leigh and Jo. Leigh is after their Aunt Erin's middle name and Jo is my middle name (and my mom's). The whole unisex names thing was not intentional!

These days this is the only Cosmopolitan I can handle! I have not built back up my tolerance since being pregnant. I had three glasses of wine the other night with a huge dinner and felt hungover! Of course, my hangover was at 3 am when I woke up to feed the girls.

3 months
The girls are now 3 months old! Well, actually they were on January 5th, but I'm a little behind on the blog.
Avery is still a little peanut, although she is starting to get chunkier. She still fits into the 0-3 months clothes, but I'll dress her in the larger size sometimes to match her sister's outfit. She smiles all the time and coos back and forth with us. I'm pretty sure she thinks we are having some big conversation, but I have no idea what is going through her head. She loves being held. She still puts her hands on her face and head while sleeping and eating.
Morgan is still our "chunky monkey" and has packed on 2 more pounds in the last month! She fits in the 3-6 months clothes and can't wear many of the 0-3 months outfits anymore. She smiles a lot! She "talks" to us when she wants to and seems a little shy. She's definitely not the chatterbox that Avery is. She has the chubbiest little cheeks and longest eye lashes!
Both girls are starting to notice things and people around them more. When Matt or I walk into the room, they smile and get excited (which is super sweet!). They love their toys, especially noisy ones or ones that light up. They will stare super focused on toys trying to figure them out. They also swat at them but rarely get a hold of anything. Their arms are still not under their control. :) Their new thing is putting their hands in their mouths - they do this all.the.time! They love to be read to and like looking at the pictures in the books. They have started sleeping longer at night (thank goodness!), usually a good 6-7 hours. They'll eat once and then go back to sleep until morning. They are still sleeping in their Rock-n-Play sleepers, but we'll probably transition them to cribs soon.

Holidays 2012
As usual, the Christmas holiday flew by! We had a lot of fun visiting with friends and family. We spent a few days in Peru, IN (Matt's hometown) and then headed to Rochester, IL (my hometown). The girls had no idea it was Christmas, but I'm pretty sure they loved all the attention they got. They were doling out big gummy smiles the whole week!
Every year when my family opens gifts, my mom says the same thing... before you even have the gift fully open... "Do you like it?" and "I thought it looked like you". Matt finds this funny and will repeat it when anyone else opens a gift as well. Regardless of what the gift is. Example: We got coffee mugs from Sandi and Brett. Matt says "Do you like it? I thought it looked like you". He's such a smart ass!
We got a ton of wonderful gifs from everyone. The girls will be decked out in cute clothes for a while! And they have plenty of new noisy toys to entertain them. One of our favorite gifts was from ourselves - a new truck! Back when we got the Equinox, we thought it would be a perfect family car. Fast forward to the twins and all the crap they need lugged around and that car became too small super fast. We decided we need a third row and a wider car so I can fit in the back seat with the girls in their car seats. The Equinox failed at both of those requirements. We weren't quite ready for a mini-van, so on Christmas Eve day we bought a new Ford Expedition. It's huge! (I negotiated the bow into the deal!)
Matt got this great idea to start a new Christmas morning tradition = matching PJs. Since the girls wear one piece footed pjs, then Matt and I had to as well! To tell you the truth, I LOVE these pjs! They are so warm and comfortable. Is it bad that I want to wear them to bed every night???
We introduced my Grandma to her great grandkids when we were in Quincy. She loved seeing all the babies. She noticed that Morgan was darker complected than the rest of the babies. She also noticed how Morgan holds her hands together (which by the way must be genetic because Matt did the same thing as a baby).
We had our first big night away from the girls over the holidays for Kari and Fubar's wedding. Our last attempt at a date night was a bust when I came down with the stomach flu hours before we were supposed to go out. Talk about a big bummer! This time, we both were healthy and had a blast. Although, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten more sleep had I been at home with the girls. We stayed out way later than we should have and of course, woke up way earlier than we wanted to.
Our New Year's Eve was spent at home with Erin, Ross and Grayson. Matt and I may have been wearing our new favorite footed pjs. : ) We made pizzas and had a champagne toast at 11pm (yep - east cost time).
And then the holidays were over and it was back to reality. For me, that meant returning to work. Wednesday was my first day back in the office. I wasn't sure I would make it out the door Wednesday morning. It is SO hard to leave the girls. I left work around 3:30 on Wednesday because I missed them so much. I made it until 5:00 on Thursday. It helped to take an extra long lunch to catch up with Hany! I'm off on Fridays for a while, so at least this was a short work week for me. Next week will be tough.
