Softball game... almost

We had a softball game last Saturday and just as we were getting there, the clouds rolled in and it started looking pretty ominous. We got to warm up about 10 minutes before the lightning alarm went off. The rule is you have to wait 20 minutes from the last lightning strike before you can play. Well, the storm was awful and there was no way we were going to play, so we headed home. Of course, not before Morgan was able to totally get dirty. Seriously, they were only out of the car for 10 minutes! Ha!

Field Trip

The kindergarten classes took a field trip to the Brookfield Zoo. Of course, the weather for most of the week was nice... but, come Friday and field trip day, it was cold and rainy! It really only rained during our lunchtime and we were able to find a place to hang out inside a building for lunch. So, it worked out ok. All of the kids were allowed to bring one chaperone, so most kids had parents with them. We hung out with the girls' friend Lizzie and her mom for the day. There are a few kids that both girls are friends with and Lizzie is one of them. The kids had an assignment to work on while we were there and they took it very seriously. They had to find various types of animals and draw pictures of them.

On the bus ride home, Morgan fell asleep. She was exhausted. When we got back to school, a lot of parents were signing their kids out for the day since there was less than an hour left of the school day. I thought I'd go ahead and take the girls home, so I wouldn't have to come back up to the school to get them later. Morgan was all for coming home, but Avery raced back to the classroom with her friends and told me she wanted to stay at school. So, Morgan and I came home and I went back later to pick Avery up. :)

Softball game

Our next softball game was a lot nicer! Sunny and warm! The girls had fun and each got a few turns at bat and got good hits! They even remembered to drop the bat and run to first! ;)

Race Day

Another wet, muddy race day is in the books. The girls did better at pacing themselves this week. They still ended up with mud all over!

Mother's Day

The girls made me breakfast in bed for Mother's Day (with help from Daddy). I got some beautiful flowers and had a nice relaxing day!

My parents were in town as well, so the girls go to celebrate Mother's Day with Mama!

Half Day Fun!

The girls had a half day on Thursday, so we went out for a fun lunch at Steak-n-Shake! Avery showed off her drawing skills while we waited for our food.

First softball game

The girls' first softball game was a chilly one! They do coach pitch and each girl gets 6 tries to hit a ball pitched to them. Then, they get out the tee and let them hit off the tee. The innings go to either 5 runs or 3 outs. So far, it seems like we hit the 5 runs first in most innings. The kids are learning to field the ball, but they aren't exactly sure what to do with it once they get it. :)

Breakfast with the Chief of Police

As part of the PTA fundraiser silent auction, we won a breakfast with the chief of police including a tour of the station and a ride to school in a police car. We had to get there early! But, the girls were excited to have sprinkle donuts. :) They really enjoyed the tour of the station and particularly loved running the sirens and the lights on a police car. We showed up a school a few minutes late and it was rainy, so most of their friends were already in school and didn't get to see them arrive in the police car.

The girls got a chance to sit in the holding cell. They were surprised by how heavy the doors were.

In the roll call room... the girls thought it was so cool that they had cameras and could see people walking around the police station. They each took turns running to the nearby room and waving into the camera at each other.

It was raining, so we got to tour the police car in the garage they bring the criminals in. Made for some loud sirens!

They got to sit in the car and run the sirens and lights. This was definitely a highlight of their tour!

Officer Stacy was the one that gave us the tour and the other officer drove us to school.

Trip to the Zoo

We went to the zoo today to get out and enjoy the great weather. Of course, we weren't the only ones with that same idea. It was crowded! :)

After the race in the morning and all the walking at the zoo, the girls crashed on the way home. They were exhausted!
