3rd week of summer break

We started off the week with volleyball on Monday night.

Sister vs sister!

Emily and Avery made up a handshake/dance

The girls are going to Avery Coonley summer camp for the next four weeks. This is a favorite camp of ours. The girls like it because they have some fun classes and activities and they see some of the same counselors and friends each year. We like it because it is a very well run camp and runs from 8:45 to 3:00 each day. Each session is two weeks long. We missed the first session this year due to the other camps the girls wanted to sign up for. This session, Avery is doing archery and Morgan is doing Author, Author (a writing class). They are both doing a Theater Arts class.

This week, unfortunately, smoke rolled in from the Canadian wildfires, which really affected our air quality. The girls' camp is at a school with classrooms, so they were able to go inside for the week and stay out of the nastiness. Of course, it was a bummer they couldn't be playing outside and swimming like they normally would be able to do.

This wasn't even as high as it got!

At karate, they had "beach" week, so Morgan wore a "beach vibes" shirt and a lei to class!

June is Dad's month, so Matt went with Morgan to class and earned his "camo" belt! May was mom's month and I earned a "pink" belt, but I didn't get a picture.

Dancing in the rain

After we got home from the carnival, it started pouring. The girls wanted to go out and dance around in the rain! There even was another rainbow!

Happy birthday to Milo!

Milo's birthday is June 24th, 2021, so he turned two! We got him a special treat - peanut butter Frosty Paws, which he loved! He figure out that if he moved it to the corner, he could eat it better and it wouldn't move so much!

More carnival fun

After lunch with Grandma Ruth, Morgan really wanted to go back to the carnival for a bit. So, I took her while Matt and Avery chillaxed at home. They had planned to go to the pool, but the weather was not that great.

Morgan rode Zero Gravity to start off

Then, we ran into Ava and her dad, Alex. Alex is Morgan's old park district soccer coach. Alex said Ava wouldn't ride any of the rides, so Morgan rode on the Tilt-a-Whirl and The Guitar with him.

It kept sprinkling on us off and on throughout the day. There was one time that Morgan had just gotten on the boat ride and it just down-poured! It was nuts! Everyone was screaming! Here's a video I took - hard to tell the amount of rain that was coming down, but it was dumping on us!

After that rain shower, there was a really bright rainbow!

Then, the boys showed up after Grayson's game. So, Morgan got to go on a few rides with them.

Morgan and Grayson rode the Zero Gravity together. There were some teenagers that caused them to shut the ride down early. They were taking off their seatbelts and trying to climb up to the top of the ride while it was going! Luckily, they got to get a full ride in after those kids were kicked off. I told Morgan you can't mess around with these rides... it's just not safe.

After this, we headed home... just before it started pouring again!

Melting Pot

We had told Ruth we'd take her our for a ladies lunch to the Melting Pot at Christmas time and we finally made good on that this past Sunday! We also had some luck that the Melting Pot had a booth at the carnival we were at the day before and were handing out coupons! I told them we were coming the next day and they gave me a $25 off coupon! :)

The girls got fancy drinks with umbrellas!

Avery pretended to use her as a real umbrella! :)

Started with the Wisconsin Cheddar cheese fondue

Even our melted-cheese-hater-Morgan loved it!

Avery stuck to eating just the bread
Next, they brought out the meat! We had steak, chicken, pork and shrimp along with some veggies.

Avery had to use the rescue spoon to get a mushroom that fell off the skewer

We told them we were celebrating Ruth and it was sort of a Christmas/Birthday kind of thing since we kept promising we'd go and just never found the time. So, they brought out this cute plate that said Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday on it! She loved it! And of course, we sang Merry Birthday to her! :)

Then, it was everyone's favorite part... the chocolate! We had ordered a 3-person serving because we figured the 2-person would not be enough since the kids were going to devour it! Everything was delicious! We got pound cake, donut holes, rice krispie treats, strawberries, bananas and marshmallows!

We decided to we will come back again... maybe just for the chocolate! :)

Festival Fun

The Rotary Grove Fest was this past weekend and there is a fun carnival with lots of rides, games, etc!

Morgan LOVES riding all the rides, but Avery is not into them. So, Morgan rode them with friends we saw along the way or by herself! We lucked out on Saturday because it was SO hot that the crowds were not bad, which meant shorter wait times for rides. Of course, it also meant we were frying!

Proof that Avery did go on a ride - the Tornado

Morgan loves the boat - here she is by herself

Avery got to make her own slushy

Morgan rode on the very last row with Emily and her friend
(she said this was really scary because she came out of her seat!)

Here she is on the disk ride

Now she found Maebel who was totally freaked out riding the boat!

Another of Morgan's favorites, the Guitar - riding with Maebel, Bear and Anne

Maebel looks terrified but Morgan is loving it!

Avery and I grabbed Starbucks refreshers before heading home

We ended the day at the pool to cool off!

2nd week of summer break

Our second week of summer break was a fun one! Avery went to Girl Scout day camp and Morgan went to soccer camp in the afternoon.

Another session of volleyball... the girls continue to love playing! And this week we have knee pads and Morgan is giving those knee pads a run for their money!

Matt finished his surprise for Morgan  - a soccer kick wall! She loves it!

So, Morgan was still getting used to the set up and was kicking the ball and then shooting a the goal towards the playset. She says to me "take a video", so here it is... she accidentally shot it right over the fence and all the way to our neighbor's backdoor!

Here is Morgan ready for another hot afternoon of soccer! We saw the TBK ad, so she had to get a picture! Soccer camp has been really hot this week with 90+ temps. They moved off the turf to the baseball fields a few days because the turf gets way too hot and there is no shade.

Avery had a blast at Girl Scout camp. She was in the In"spa"ration group, so they made soap, gave each other manicures and made yogurt face masks! They also do all the typical Girl Scout camp activities!

Morgan stole my phone and took a selfie before soccer camp!

It was SO hot that we went to the pool for an hour before dinner on Wednesday night.

Avery sporting her new tie-dyed shirt she made at Girl Scout camp.

Morgan after soccer camp on Thursday... so sweaty!

Avery with her Girl Scout camp group. The counselors all have nicknames and her counselor was "Dinosaur". :)

Morgan is getting ready for a karate tournament in a few weeks, so they worked on the form she needs to do for the touranment.

It's Friday! And I guess that means selfies in the car on the way to Girl Scout camp!

Morgan is ready for her last day of soccer camp, too!

I picked Avery up from camp and this is what she (and her group mates) all looked like! She said they were being "Chads"! :) She had a fun week and all the girls signed each others shirts on the back!

Here's a picture of them from the camp FB page.

And to continue the Girl Scout fun, it was cookie reward pick-up night! She got all of these awesome rewards for all the cookies she sold! She loves the new shades!

We ended the week with a trip to the pool. It wasn't too crowded, probably because of the carnival downtown.

When we got home, Avery decided to try out her face mask she made at Girl Scout camp. She said it has Greek yogurt, honey and turmeric! She said it didn't smell great, but her skin was softer!
