The holidays seemed to fly by. Always do. I love this time of year. Just seems like we pack so much into such a short amount of time. The girls really got into Christmas this year and it was great! Every time we asked them what they wanted for Christmas, it changed. Luckily, Avery stopped asking for a ladder (what she originally told Santa she wanted).
We hosted Christmas Eve dinner at our house again this year. As is our tradition, we deep fried a turkey and a chicken. Erin and Ross and their kiddos came over, along with my parents. Brett and Sandi were spending Christmas Eve with Sandi's family, so they couldn't make it. But, Keely and Brian, Sabrina and their newest addition Natasha (who is adorable!) came over. We all had tons of fun and lots of good food! The kids had a blast playing together and were really excited that Santa was coming later that night! After leaving some cookies and milk out for Santa, the girls finally crashed for the night.
On Christmas morning, Matt and I were awake at least 30 minutes before the girls. I think we were more excited than they were! I'm sure in years to come, they will be waking us up, but this year we were waiting on them. We went downstairs and they were a little overwhelmed. We showed them that Santa had taken bites of the cookies and drank the milk. Avery said "mommy, he didn't eat all of his cookies". I told her he just needed a little snack before he headed on his way. They immediately saw the Paw Patrol toys they got for Christmas. Those girls are infatuated with Paw Patrol right now! Seems like they change favorite shows every couple of weeks! We also got them a dollhouse, which is so much fun to see them play with. The stuff they come up with is hilarious! This year, we definitely saw a difference in the toys we bought Avery vs. Morgan. Avery is into art and playdoh and playing in the kitchen. Morgan is very into animals and blocks and puzzles.
After we opened presents at our house, we went over to the Wilkens for brunch. We kept up our tradition of the Christmas jammies. This year, we had Charlie Brown and Snoopy! After brunch, we all caught a little snooze and rested up. After naps, we all got together at our house for our family gift exchange. We had a special visitor, Santa himself! (aka my Uncle Scott) Morgan ran up to him immediately and wanted to show him her special blankie. Ha! Of all the kids, I would say she loved Santa the most! Grayson was ok with him, but the other kiddos had some stranger danger going on and didn't want to spend too much time with him.
After Santa "left", we had a bunch of food and drinks and more family fun. Have I mentioned that I love this time of year! It's part crazy and stressful, but mostly just great to see everyone and watch all the kids! I remember how much I loved Christmas as a child and just hope I can recreate that same feeling for Morgan and Avery. :)
