Our weekend kicked off with a Rhinestone Party for Avery at her dance company. It was on Friday night from 5 to 11pm, but we opted to pick her up at 9pm for "early pick-up". The dancers worked on their costumes for the competitions, bedazzling them with rhinestones! They also got pizza and had fun hanging out with their friends. Morgan, Matt and I went out to dinner at Neat, which is one of Morgan's favorite places!

On Saturday morning, Morgan had an early soccer game for the 2012 Girls Select team vs LTSC. It was a boring game for this goalie. She didn't have to make too many saves while playing goalie. She did get to play midfield for the second half of the game, which was a little more exciting. Her team won 2-0.
After lunch, Morgan had a home game for Team MC at Montini. We ran into Erin there because Hunter was playing on the court right before Morgan's team played. Morgan's team played against the Wolfpack and lost. It wasn't their best effort, but a couple players were feeling under the weather.
After the game, we relaxed a bit at home. One of the mom's of the Team MC players had coordinated an outing at PuttShack for all the girls to get together outside of basketball for some team bonding. This is the first season they've all played together. Most of the girls were able to join and they all had a fun time!

Sunday morning, there was another Team MC basketball game vs Wolfpack again, but this time at DG north high school. DGN had just gotten new scoreboards and they were awesome! The game was close and the girls did make a comeback, but just couldn't win in the end. Morgan had a rough game and ended up getting pretty upset. She's working on controlling her emotions, but spent some time on the bench because she was so upset. When she was in the game, she was aggressive and made some good plays. Here's a video of her going after the ball and getting a jump ball called.
After the game, we all took a breather. Morgan needed to decompress and have some lunch. We went to Smoothie King and City BBQ. Then, we hung out at home for a bit before the next game. We did discuss with Morgan the importance of keeping yourself under control in games, even when it's not going your way. It's tough when all you want to do is win and your team is brand new together playing against better, more established teams. Definitely a good lesson to learn. As her coach says, she needs more of a "goldfish mentality", learn from your mistakes and move on. She tends to dwell on them and get down on herself.
The last game of the weekend was on Sunday night in Geneva. We played this team last weekend and lost. They are the best team in the league and have beaten all the other teams by double digits. Again, we stressed to Morgan that even though you aren't winning, you need to play hard and keep your head up. She did so much better this game with her attitude, definitely a 180 from the earlier game. Her team only scored 10 points and she had 5 of them. She played aggressively until the end and didn't get down on herself. We were really proud of her!
A few videos from the game:
We won the jump ball!
Getting better at her ball handling and drawing fouls!
Getting her own rebounds and scoring!
