Skating buddies

We've been roller skating a few times at the local rink. The last time we went, we ran into a friend of the girls from their old daycare. They loved skating with her! She goes to a different elementary school, so we don't see her anymore, but they picked up right where they left off!

Basketball

We made it through the kindergarten coed basketball league. The girls had a blast and are sad the league is over. Starting off, they really had no clue about most of how basketball works. It's not like they even watch it on TV. But, by the end, they were learning how defense works and how to play with a team. Of course, they still spent a lot of time cheering, playing with their hair and chatting with their friends. :) Their team was really good, with a few boys that have definitely played before and are really athletic in general. So, we won all but the last game, which we tied on a last second basket.

The games were a little crazy sometimes. That would be my only complaint, that they didn't really keep the rules consistent. Some weeks, the games seemed like a free-for-all. Other weeks, we followed the rules and the game was under control. It's hard when the coaches are the referees. Really, we just wanted a fun experience for the girls where they could learn a little about basketball. I think that's what they got. :)

Pie in the face

I love this video! Everyone was trying to get the girls to stand in and get the whipped topping in their face, but they just wouldn't do it. Beckett jumped in to do it with a big smile on his face. Then, he got the whipped topping in the eye and it was not as much fun anymore! What a silly game!

Chili Cook-off

We participated in a PTA fundraiser chili cook-off last weekend. When I say "we", I really mean "Matt". I made the sign for our table. :) But, he did the work. He made his smoked pulled pork chili for the cook-off.  Pulled pork smoked on the Green Egg, then chili cooked on the Green Egg smoked as well. Gives the chili an awesome flavor! There were definitely a few interesting chili options at the cook-off. Someone brought a white chicken and apple chili, which was actually like a chili mac with pasta. It was good, but just different than anything I've had before. It was fun for us to get out and meet some more parents from the girls' school. There were quite a few with kids in kindergarten and some from the girls basketball team.

Lucky #7
And the votes are in... Matt won best chili! Matt even got a trophy, which is now perched proudly on our mantle!

Snow Fun

Some fun playtime with our cousins outside in the snow last weekend. My parents were in town helping out with the boys, so Papa got to help with the shoveling and sledding.

We went sledding at a nearby park. Papa helped propel the girls down the hill!

This is the first time the girls had been sledding (unless you count the manmade hill of snow we made in our backyard last snowfall!)

B-ball

The girls are in a co-ed kindergarten basketball league this winter. We had our first game last weekend. I'm not sure they totally get the game or what they are supposed to be doing during the game, but they had fun. Avery even managed to score a basket, although she more enjoyed just cheering from the sidelines. :)

Fun times... she says sarcastically

Do you know what this is used for???

Well, if you don't, you are lucky! We unfortunately found out the first week back at school after Christmas break. Turns out, Morgan had picked up lice at school before break and it was in full force! And as she is such a nice little girl, she shared it with her mommy! Ugh. Avery managed to avoid the infestation, which may be due to a different blood type (according to the "lice lady"). I had no idea what to look for and didn't even realize Morgan had lice until I found a live louse on her head! Missed the whole egg stage and thought it was just a little extra dandruff. Ugh, again. So gross!

Did you know that there are people that come to your house and de-louse you? I did not, but it was a life saver! I could not have done this on my own. I would have missed some for sure! But, the "lice lady" Vivian came to our house and treated us all, even Avery got a head check and some coconut oil on her head. Vivian even came back three days later to follow-up and make sure we were still lice free. Now, we wait to see if anyone picks it back up from another kid at school. Vivian said it's bad when the school gets it because the kids just pass it back and forth. We are taking all precautions we can now. Of course, Morgan is a big hugger, so we have some work to do on that!

I have learned way more than I ever wanted to about lice during this whole process! I have also learned that schools don't get too worked up about it these days and don't even notify the parents unless there is like a huge outbreak. They don't even send kids home for lice anymore. No wonder it spreads like wildfire!

My child getting de-loused. Yuck!

With our lice treatments in our hair!
