Quarantine Day 87: Sunday Funday

Another gorgeous day! Matt came down the stairs after being gone for a little bit and the girls mouths dropped... he had shaved off his beard! No more Santa beard! But, he did leave a little mustache just for fun for the day. He's going to shave that off tomorrow before work. :)

Before

After

Morgan thought he looked creepy - ha!

Matt and the girls took a walk in the morning and found some cicadas to play with. We're on the 13 year mark, so there is a resurgence this year. You can't walk one step outside without seeing them or almost stepping on them. Ugh!

The girls and I took a walk and met some neighbors with dogs. One is named Rick and is a kindergarten teacher in Lombard. He has a dog named Pokey. I'm not sure of the other person's name, but her dog is named Dotty. We met Dotty when they first got her and she's gotten bigger now. We chatted and let the girls pet the dogs. I think I lucked out getting the "dog" walk vs the "cicada" walk. Ha!

This week, we did Sunday Funday over at the Wilkens' house. Ross made steak and chicken tacos and the kiddos had a blast playing together. Such a beautiful sunny day!

Matt sporting his 'stache!

A pool just her size!

Slam dunk!

Slam dunk!

Cicada shell... ugh.

Aunt Erin has the best treats!

Mickey Mouse ice cream = yum!
I love our Sunday Fundays! It's nice to just hang out and forget about work and everything for a few hours. Keeps us all sane! The drinks and the yummy food help, too! :)

Quarantine Day 86: Sunshine!

It was a gorgeous Saturday! Sunny skies and just the right temperature! We spent a lot of the day outside.

The girls have been collecting cicada shells... awesome.

Of course, we spent quite a bit of time in the pool. The water is much warmer now!

We enjoyed some Wendy's for lunch... and Frosties on the back deck!

More swimming...

I'm not even sure how water stays in this pool with all the splashing! :)

And because I love memes... here are a couple more I thought were good.

Quarantine Day 85: Walmart FTW

So, I have been searching everywhere for a larger kids pool! Since all the public pools are closed, people are buying up the kids pools like they're Clorox wipes or something. Then, they are selling them on ebay and Amazon for crazy inflated prices. Ugh. I ordered a pool from some random hardware store in Texas's website and it's on backorder. I also have been having no luck finding summer nylon like running shorts for the girls in their size. It's like every other parent already bought those, too! And the girls are a little particular about what they will wear, so that doesn't help.

Anyway, fast forward to Friday morning at Walmart... decided to stop in because Target didn't have what I wanted. Well, it was my lucky day! I grabbed the last larger kids pool from the top shelf (helps to be tall!) And then, I went to the girls clothes section and found a bunch of running shorts ON CLEARANCE! I also found swimsuits on sale and a couple sets of pajamas I knew the girls would love. Score! Somebody even stopped me in the parking lot and said "did you just get that pool here today?!?!" like they were surprised. She said her daughter has been looking for one all over too!

Just to give you an idea of the average price people are selling these for on other sites... $75+. When you buy this regular retail... $25. I even saw someone asking like $120 on Amazon for this same cheap little pool. Ridiculous!

Of course, we had to set it up immediately. We filled it up with water, but it was like swimming in the Arctic. The girls swam for a bit because they were so excited to have a pool. But, once that wore off, they were done with the icy water.

Daddy tried to warm it up with some boiled water. It helped a little, but not enough. Hopefully, a few hours in the sun will make it more bearable!

After Morgan got some new Nikes a few days ago, Avery just had to have some, too. Of course, she selected the light pink color. Here she is sporting her new kicks and also the new jammies I found at Walmart. :)

Quarantine Day 84: Silliness

Today was the first official day of summer break. It was Lily's (our babysitter) first day and the girls were beyond excited. They waited outside for her to walk from her house to ours and when they saw her, they met her halfway down the block! We are having her watch the girls in the mornings through lunch to keep them entertained and allow Matt and me to get some work done. :)

Tonight at bedtime, instead of reading books, the girls wanted to watch videos on my phone of them when they were younger. We watched a lot of funny ones, but the girls loved these of them trying to say the Peter Piper poem. Avery's version cracked us up SO MUCH, we watched it SO MANY TIMES! She's so animated! Ha!

Also, here's another meme that made me laugh tonight. It's so true!

Quarantine Day 83: Last Day of School

Well, today was the last day of first grade. So bittersweet!

The girls had their last Zoom meetings with the teachers and friends. The kids were all given a chance to say something on the call, whether it was what they had planned for the summer, what they would miss about 1st grade or just whatever. Morgan raised her hand to talk and she said she wished they could all be together in person to say good-bye to each other. Ugh. The teacher said she wished the same thing. Made me so sad for all of those kiddos. They love their teachers so much and spent every day with them until all of a sudden they were not allowed to see them anymore.

We got an email with their awards to print out... here you go!

We normally do something special on the last day of school with the girls... usually it involves a stop at Cocomero for frozen yogurt with all sorts of toppings. But, today, we stayed home and played in the backyard with our new slip-n-slide. So much fun! Then, Daddy made everyone milkshakes! Yum!

Look out 2nd grade!!! :)

Quarantine Day 82: Sprinkler Fun

I think this girl is on her way to becoming a teenager. Ha! Note that this cell phone is not in working order. It's an old one that we don't use anymore. Matt put a pop-socket on it that he got from work, so she feels like such an adult. :)

In the afternoon, we busted out the water guns and sprinkler to cool off.

Today was drop-off/pick-up day at school to drop off any school supplies that need to be returned and pick up all the things the kids had at school. Everyone had to make an appointment and follow strict rules about how to do the exchanges safely. We got two huge bags of papers, supplies, notebooks, etc for the girls.

This was Avery's last entry in her school journal. She was so excited to go to Disney. This made me sad.

Similarly, this was Morgan's writing journal. She also wrote about our upcoming Disney trip. :(

I found this in Morgan's bag and I thought it was really sweet. I did notice in more than one place in Morgan's writing that she acts like her dog, Crystal, is a real dog. It is in fact a large stuffed animal.

I found it interesting how neat Avery's things were kept and how Morgan's were kind of the opposite. The girls had to keep a paperclip in their supplies because they used them to as spinners for classwork. Avery's was nice and intact. Morgan's was turned into a creation along with her many erasers. Morgan is a fidgeter, so I can totally see her doing this. :)

I also just got a little chuckle out of this picture Morgan drew... I hope she means MATH - ha!

Quarantine Day 81

Today was a lazy day at our house. The girls had a virtual field day for school, but we skipped it. I think we're just ready for summer break and to be done with anything else. Luckily, they have no actual lessons this week. Just a few more Zoom calls with their teachers to say good-bye. The end of school this year is really making me sad. It's not like we've been anxiously waiting for summer and we have all these fun things planned. Just such a different feeling this year.
