Antsy

I'm getting super ansty right now... my weekend starts in about an hour and I'm totally ready now! I'm meeting up with my friend Crystal at Union Station around noon (she took the train from St. Louis). Then my other friend, JJ, gets into Midway around 2:15 today. We're going for manicures this afternoon and then to see Wicked tonight. I absolutely love that show. I've seen it before a few times, but it's one of those shows that you can see again and still be entertained.

FYI, the summer festival season is kicking off this weekend with Mayfest... it's at Barry & Ashland and has lots of cool bands. If the weather is decent enough, we're going to head there tomorrow (Sat) night to see Too White Crew (6pm) and Sixteen Candles (8pm). We'll probably end up at Celtic Crown after that for their Saturday night 'Wild Karaoke'! If you're looking for something to do, that's where we'll be... the more the merrier!

Have a good weekend everyone! : )

Shrimp on the barbie

Last night, Matt marinated shrimp & threw them out on the grill...

... while I made some fried rice.

Turns out the rice took a lot longer than we originally thought (it would have been a good idea to actually read the box before putting the shrimp on the grill!) But, it all turned out super deelish!

We played some Wii... Matt killed me at bowling... and he was even bowling with the Anti-Jabba, who bowls left handed. So, to feed his ego some more (apparently), I decided to play tennis against him. Again, he killed me. I did manage to score a few points, which is quite an accomplishment for me! And I also kept my "racket" to myself and didn't accidentally smack him like I have in the past (which is why this is the first time the two of us have played tennis against each other in months).

Flat no more... my tires, that is

I've been noticing that my tires have seemed a little flat lately, so I asked Matt if he would help me air them back up last night. (And by "help me", I mean go ahead and air up my tires while I stand around pretending to help and of course, holding onto the little cap things.) Matt has this cool little digital air pressure measuring thing. Based on the sticker on my car door, the tires should be between 32 to 35 PSI depending on if they are in the front or the rear of the car. Matt measured what mine were currently at... they averaged about 20 PSI and the front right tire was at 12 and the left front was at 15. Somewhere, my Dad is cringing while reading this, I'm sure. It's ok, Dad... Matt gave me that look that says "I can't believe you were driving like this!" He might have actually said those words, too. But, now it's all back to normal. Thanks Matt!

We are NOT the champions

So, as expected, DeezNuts was defeated in the volleyball playoffs last night. We were hopeful in the beginning because we took an early lead in the first game (we were up by 11 points!). Turns out, the other team just needed to warm up. They ended up winning that game by a couple of points. Pretty sad. The second game was more of the same... we didn't have a chance.

So, now our team will take a little hiatus over the summer. We used to do beach v-ball, but it's more of a hassle than it is fun... (1) the weather usually sucks and it's really no fun playing volleyball barefoot in cold, wet sand in 50 degree rainy weather, and (2) parking is crappy and expensive by the beach, and (3) the games start at 6pm/7pm so that we can still be playing in daylight and the 6pm games are almost impossible to make it to. We will start back up in the fall in the indoor league again... hopefully with a few changes in our line-up, but that's a totally different story.

Is it only Wednesday???

Is it bad to already be looking forward to the weekend and it's only Wednesday? Probably. I think this may be why I feel like it's always a day later than it really is. Like last week, I thought for sure that Thursday was really Friday... makes for a disappointing Friday morning. And yesterday, I kept thinking it was Wednesday. What made it even worse was that Matt was asking me what time I had volleyball last night (which is on Wed, not Tues), so I was even more confused.

Anyway, this week, I'm taking off Friday afternoon to meet up with a couple of friends of mine from high school. One lives in St. Louis and the other in Omaha and they are coming into Chicago for the weekend. We all played basketball together back in the day... I'll have to track down a pic of that and post it later! I'm totally excited to see them and I already have tons of fun stuff planned to do!

Tonight, our volleyball team (DeezNuts) plays in the final rounds of the playoffs. We have a game at 8pm against the #1 team. If we win that, we play for the championship at 9pm. We're already at a disadvantage because Chad, Erin and Brandon won't be able to make it. Luckily, Hany is filling in for Erin... and Angie got Brian and Mark to sub for Chad and Brandon... so we may have a fighting chance. Not to be pessimistic, but even with a full team, I doubt we will make it past the first round... the #1 team has not lost a single game the entire league. They probably should be in a higher level. But it definitely would be great to take them down! Anyway, "Go Nuts!" - that's our team cheer! : )

Gas prices = ridiculous

So, I was driving into work today and noticed at the first gas station I passed, the price for a gallon of gas was $4.41 for regular unleaded... that's not even for the good stuff! UGH!!! I'm glad I just filled up! I kept driving and less than half a mile farther south on Western, the price at the next two gas stations was $4.06 and $4.09 (still ridiculously high, mind you). I think those people at the first gas station are trying to milk this situation a little or something. Not cool.

They announced on the radio this morning that the average price of gas in the city today is $4.02 per gallon... all I can say is that I'm glad I don't drive that much! Geesh! : 0

We are the champions!

So, the bowling league is over and our team ended up in first place! I know... we are pretty shocked at this, too, considering in the past few years, I don't think we even made top 10. It was too bad that Brandon couldn't be there to enjoy the last game with us... he's in India for work for a couple of weeks. BUT, we did keep him posted of our progress Sunday night through txt msgs. I think it was like Monday morning his time and he was getting ready for work. Once we were sure we'd secured the victory, we let him know and he called the bowling alley from India and requested they play "We are the Champions" for us... how awesome is that!?!? I think the guy at the counter thought it was a prank or something. : )

We played against the Four Shadows team (Matt, Reuter, Fubar and Funk) and I think a couple bowling balls ended up in the drink at the end of the night!

Afterwards we headed to Four Shadows for a celebratory beer. Matt's team had a few shots and a few more beers... I know one person from that team was having a difficult time getting to work on Monday morning! ; )

I didn't take many pics (shocking, I know!)... but I did get a pic of Fubar's shirt... I like it!
